Summary
When Sienna Hegarty turns up at his family home one night, covered in blood and frozen in shock, psychologist Joe O'Loughlin finds himself drawn deep into her world, trying to unearth the dark secrets her mind has buried. The police find a major piece of the puzzle at Sienna’s house: her father, a retired cop, is face-down in a pool of his own blood, his throat slashed and his skull caved in. The blood covering Sienna was his.
The 14-year-old can’t remember what happened that night but, at the same time, Sienna doesn’t mourn her father’s death. What was going on behind closed doors in the Hegarty household? Is Sienna guilty of brutal murder? And what part has her charismatic teacher, Gordon Ellis, played in this blood-soaked event?

Another excellent read from Michael Robotham
This book comes later along the time line than Shatter and a few main characters have moved on in life. Again, unputdownable and leaves you wanting to read more when it comes to an end.

Another excellent addition and read masterfully
Once again an engaging tale from the point of view of Joseph. A man whose openness with his own judgements upon himself lend to each thriller with a sense of realism that feels neither contrived nor forced.
The story is given extra life by the always amazing performance by Sean Barrett. Honestly, this man could read a takeaway menu and make you feel lost in the beauty of a depth you never knew was there or that it contained so many characters. First class

Great thriller, well paced
Sean Barret effortlessly carries us along in a dark, too close to home, case for ex met inspector Vincent Ruiz called in to help Joe O'Lochlan when his daughter's best friend is arrested on suspicion of murdering her father, who happens to be a retired but well respected policeman. The connections between various elements of the case and events in Joe's personal life take him into a dark and seedy world of child abuse and show us a side of human nature that's all too easy to ignore though ever present.

Interesting plot with good character development
I didn't find this novel as gripping as 'Shatter' but it was interesting to see the consequences of that novel played out in this. The story was interesting with some satisfying twists and turns, and I enjoyed the continuing development of the characters. Sean Barret is an always reliable narrator who does voices very well and I'm really hoping there will be another in this series.

Enjoyable series
I have enjoyed this series, though I don't think this is one of the best. I am wearying a little of Joe's private agonies and feel that they detract from the actual story.
Overall though, worth reading. I was wrong in my theory about 'whodunnit', and enjoyed the twists.

Brilliant!
This book had me gripped from the beginning to the end! It was well read and every character was believable, my only complaint was that I could not switch it off and go to sleep at night because it was so thrilling!

This series just keeps getting better
A magnificent book, extremely well written with a marvellous plot, a compelling, complex hero and great secondary characters.
I thought the author’s last villain would not be bettered, but somehow this one seems a little worse.
If you have not started the series then do so and if this is your next book you are in for a treat.

Far superior to most thrillers
Michael Robotham's writing and Sean Barrett's narration is an unbeatable combination.
I have read so many ordinary thrillers that it takes something special to grab my attention and keep me hooked for twelve hours. Robotham, along with Jo Nesbo and Stieg Larsson, has never failed.
The plot is well developed and credible. It moves along at a fast pace with many twists and turns, but it never feels contrived or unbelievable.
Joe O'Loughlin, the clinical psychologist and lead character, has a strong back story - his battle with Parkinson's Disease, his failing marriage and a teenage daughter determined to live older than her fifteen years - provides a strong foundation. Retired cop Victor Ruiz is brilliant in the supporting role injecting humour and political incorrectness. The dialogue is natural and skilfully written.
If you enjoy thrillers give Robotham a listen; I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

The best yet.
I've listened to the 4 books making up the series. This was definitely the best. Well worth a listen. Excellent plot and very good narration.
