About this listen

There is no perfect marriage. There is no perfect murder.

Diana Jager's life crumbles when her details are released on the Internet as revenge for her antisexism blog. Then she meets Peter. Within six months, they are married. Within six more, Peter is dead in a road accident - a nightmare end to their fairy-tale romance.

But Peter's sister, Lucy, doesn't believe in fairy tales and tasks maverick reporter Jack Parlabane with discovering the dark truth behind the woman the media is calling 'Black Widow'.

I've always enjoyed Christopher brookmyre's books and this was no exception. I found myself taking the long routes on walks just so I could enjoy more of the book!

A delight to listen o

Would you consider the audio edition of Black Widow to be better than the print version?

No, with the audio edition you could simply relax and listen. The narration was excellent. I've never had an audio book with two narrators before and I was a little unsure, but it worked perfectly.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Black Widow?

I can't tell you that! it would spoil things.

Have you listened to any of Angus King and Scarlett Mack ’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was so well written and narrated that it was real, you could picture the scenes and imagine reactions, with things happening away from the main storyline to give it a natural depth. You never felt that it was a two dimensional world of unconvincing storyline and shallow typecast characters.

Any additional comments?

I thoroughly enjoyed it and can wholeheartedly recommend it as an excellent listen.

I didn't expect that!

Brookmyre's recent love of telling his stories from opposing viewpoints comes to a head here, in quite possibly my favourite book of his (and that's a long list.)

I was hooked on the characters, thanks hugely to the performance of the narrators. Scarlett Mack especially shines in telling the 1st person sections, so much that I feel like I've gotten an inside look at a fully living person.

One cautionary note for fellow geeks in the readership, this one does not show us in a flattering light.

Could not put this down! (metaphorically)

If you've read Brookmyre before you know there will be blood, swearing and quite probably some sex. You get all that in Black Widow as you are dragged into a mystery that has many levels.

There are twists of course, and Brookmyre has a clever way of letting you work out a few of them before hitting you with a bigger reveasl that hide behind them. Parlabane plays his usual supporting role behind the main characters digging around where he's not supposed to.

The twins performance works and both do a fantastic job.

As good as I've read by Brookmyre

Engrossing story, and not at all predictable. Took a little bit to get into it but once I did I was hooked. Really enjoyed it - would recommend and looking forward to more of the author

New to Brookmyre - great story, great twists. Loved it
