Summary

Nominated for the Audiobook Download of the Year, 2008.

You heard it here first: The unabridged edition of A Prisoner of Birth is only available as a download.

This download also includes an interview with Jeffrey Archer about A Prisoner of Birth.

Danny Cartwright and Spencer Craig were born on different sides of the track.

Danny, an East End Cockney, leaves Clement Attlee Comprehensive School at the age of 15 to take up a job at a local garage. He falls in love with Beth, the boss's daughter, and asks her to marry him.

Spencer Craig resides in the West End. A graduate of an English public school and Cambridge University, he becomes a criminal barrister and is soon tipped to be the youngest Queen's Counsel of his generation.

Danny and Beth travel up to the West End to celebrate their engagement. They end the evening in a wine bar where Spencer Craig is also celebrating - his 30th birthday, along with a select group of university chums.

Their lives will never be the same again. For, an hour later, one of them is arrested for murder, while the other ends up as the prosecution's chief witness in an Old Bailey trial.

absolutely loved it.

It is my first time listening to Jeffrey Archer and I thougherly loved every minute of the story. The narrator was also perfect for this story. I am now looking for other books he has narrated.
The characters were so well detailed you feel like you know them.
The trials were excellent and felt very true to life.
I would love a follow on book as I am missing the characters already.
one of my favourite books in a very long time.

Excellent

I must admit that a Jeffrey Archer book would not normally be my first choice but the reviews were so good I thought I would give him a try. I have vague memories of reading a couple of his books many years ago but of course there is always someone knew to try. Lately though I have returned several books because they are badly crafted and difficult to listen to. This one hooked me from the beginning and I couldn’t stop listening to it. All the characters are well drawn and the way the story is written makes an implausible story believable. Also very well narrated. A plethora of accents which were just right. 5 stars for everything and I will be using my refunded credits to buy more Jeffrey Archer books. He is still a master story-teller.

Thoughily enjoyed this great book by JA.

Listened whilst walking the lab. Thoroughly enjoyed the work. The walk was frequently extended by a couple of miles in order to continue enjoying the story as well as the walk.
Thank you Mr. Archer.
We are both fitter and slimmer as a result.

Another Archer epic

this is a long listen but you wont want to pause. A good story with good guys bad guys and some in-between. If you insist on an entirely plausible plot and wont allow a bit of poetic licence, then the end may disappoint. It has a bit of everything drama, violence, love, injustice, revenge and redemption. Great story and thoroughly enjoyable.

Well worth a listen

What did you like most about A Prisoner of Birth?

I loved the whole book, the story line was a really good one and you just wanted everything to work out.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book, all the way through I wanted to know what was going to happen, it kind of took over my life when I wasn't listening to it I was thinking about it and wondering what happened next.

Any additional comments?

I loved listening to this book and if your thinking of buying it then I would say go for it, its gripping and well worth your credit. I love it and I hope you will too.

Best Archer book yet.

Brilliant....couldn't put it down. Best bit was when he opened the door to see is loved Beth standing there. Then, at the end....Guilty" the reader was superb.

Prisoner of Birth Jeffrey Archer

The Ace Story Teller does it again. I was gripped from the first page and was disappoined when it finished.
It clearly demonstrates the social devide between those who have the privileges of wealth and birth, as opposed to those who enter the world without the trappings of the middle and upper classes.
The characters are well constructed and it was easy to imagine oneself as part of the tale. Throughout the many twists and turns - some less believable but nonetheless intriguing - leave the listener captivated.
The life in prison was brilliantly described and must have benefitted from Archer's own experiences. This must have been a God given gift to the Author, despite the obvious inconvenience at the time.
All the Court Scenes were fascinating and particularly the final one which made me laugh out loud with the caustic comments of the Aged Brief in the closing stages of the Case.
This is a great story and one which I can recommend without reservation.
