Summary

This Cyanide Publishing box set contains four classic crime/mystery audiobooks including:

The Strange Case of Mortimer Fenley (1915) - Louis Tracy

When artist John Trenholme accepts a welcome commission from a magazine editor to journey down to an old Hertfordshire village and make a series of sketches, he did not in the least expect to get mixed up with a murder, and to find himself to be one of the most important witnesses.

A Strange Disappearance (1880) - Anna Katharine Green

The beautiful, young seamstress goes missing from handsome Mr. Blake's house. He says he had never noticed her. In fact, everyone says he never shows an interest in any woman. But everyone's wrong.

The Almost Perfect Murder (1937) - Hulbert Footner

A collection of crime fiction short stories featuring Mme. Rosika Storey and her resourceful assistant, Bella Brickley. Mme. Storey unravels complex cases with thorough investigation and an understanding of human nature.

Arsene Lupin (1909) - Maurice LeBlanc

Mystery and tension build, but humor prevails throughout as Monsieur Lupin and Chief Inspector Guerchard try mightily to outwit each other. Slapstick humor, witty asides, and some unexpected twists.

Utter rubbish

A lot of words in a mid Atlantic accent which gets more and more boring

An extremely good primer

What made the experience of listening to Crime/Mystery Starter Library the most enjoyable?

The stories, which I thoroughly enjoyed and also the narrator, who gave a good performance of all the books.

What did you like best about this story?

That's a hard one. It's not one story. I think I liked the first story best, even though I didn't manage to solve it.

What about Richard Ward’s performance did you like?

Variation. The English books were delivered with an English accent and the American ones with the American accent. Voices were also well done.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Hardly. It's very long and incorporates four different books but I liked the idea of getting stories by authors I'd never heard of before.

Any additional comments?

This is one I'll probably listen to again once I've forgotten the stories a bit. For their era, they're well written and (mostly) tightly plotted.
