Summary
I know my daughter better than I know myself, and if there’s one thing I know for sure at this moment it's that Maisie is not okay.
My ex-husband, Shaun, and I are still friends. We would do anything for our beautiful little girl, Maisie. But now Shaun has moved in with Joanne, and suddenly Maisie has a brand-new family. And there’s something not quite right about it....
I know Joanne isn’t everything she says she is. Yet no-one will listen. I need to discover what she’s hiding. Because if I don’t, my daughter will be in terrible danger.
The most gripping psychological thriller you’ll listen to this year from the Kindle top five best-selling author K. L. Slater. If you love The Girl on the Train or Gone Girl, you’ll be absolutely hooked.

Disappointing
I’ve loved everything so far from K L Slater but this was a bit of a let down.
The Emma splits with her husband and they decide to remain living together for the sake of their daughter. Until he meets someone else. The daughter Maisie seems affected by the changes but all isn’t as it seems.
Emma is a tedious drip of a character and I repeatedly shouted out loud “DO SOMETHING THEN FFS” because despite her apparent fear that something was wrong she didn’t do anything about it.
There are various themes throughout the book, but the ending came as a surprise and not in a good way. There was so much explanation into various storylines but ultimately there was very little for how it actually ended and it took away the feeling of having ‘earned’ the ending from the reader.
As a local it was nice to read about Nottingham and all the places mentioned.
The performance was excellent as always from Lucy Price-Lewis.
I will continue to read everything from K L Slater as I think they are an excellent author but this one I didn’t enjoy like the others.

gripping
This is a gripping story, covering lots of sensitive and serious topics. I was desperate to find out what was going on and cared about the family. the narration was superb, very easy to listen to and suited the characters.
The reason it wasn't five star for me was I found the main character especially, incredibly frustrating, and I'm not convinced someone would act that way in all instances. I also felt some things were chucked in there that didn't really add to the story.
That being said, it was a good story, though truly shocking!

quite a few twists
good read. quite a few twists which keep you guessing what is happening to Maisie. A good ending too which changes the expected outcome

Good narration, average story
This is an easy read/listen which is narrated very well, but I was a bit disappointed with it. It takes a while to build up, the characters are all pretty miserable, then everything happens at once. The last twenty minutes or so throws in one twist too many making it feel ridiculous rather than shocking. Sorry. Like I say, an easy listen but don't set expectations too high for a gripping psychological thriller.

Not one of the best!!
I enjoyed the story .. though the ending was a bit bizarre .. not one of the best K L Slater books I’ve read I’d say it’s somewhere at the bottom.

This is the third KLSlater I have read, in a strange way the twist and turns become a little predictable, overall not a bad book of it's type, well narrated

Disappointing ending
I have listened to lots of K.L Slaters stories recently and really enjoyed them but this one was so disappointing. The ending was absolutely awful and felt hurried. I wish I hadn’t wasted so much time listening to it …

Disappointing End
Very good story till right at the very end. The book built up to a good crescendo then it fizzled out.
