Summary
Neben "Grete Minde", "Ellernklipp" und "Quitt" ist "Unterm Birnbaum" die vierte Novelle Fontanes, die sich mit Mord und Verbrechen beschäftigt. Aber diese 1883 - 85 zunächst als Fortsetzungegeschichte in der "Gartenlaube" erschienene Novelle ähnelt doch am meisten einem heutigen Kriminalroman. Noch vor der Ägide der Whodunits wie etwa die von Agatha Christie oder Arthur Conan Doyle geschriebenen, wirkt sie heute mit ihrer sehr genauen psychologischen Beschreibung, der feinen Milieuzeichnung und der immer präsenten düsteren Athmossphäre, doch neuer und moderner als diese. Aber wie jeder gute Kriminalroman enthält sie einen spannenden, verzwickten und erst nach und nach sich offenbarenden Plot.
