Originally written in the late 1920's, Orlando is the fascinating and fantastic tale of an aristocratic writer and observer whose life spans several centuries. This complex story of androgyny is marvelously narrated by Laura Paton. Her velvet voice lusciously conveys Woolf's lavish and sensual prose. This audiobook is performed with unusual clarity due to Paton's unhurried delivery. Her measured, careful pace makes each word stand out. She's an excellent storyteller and her well-crafted performance makes this an outstanding listening experience. Selections from Vivaldi, Bach, Beethoven and Ravel add to the enjoyment.

Summary

Orlando is one of the most unforgettable creations of twentieth-century literature. He emerges as a young man at the court of Queen Elizabeth I and progresses, with breathtaking ease, through three centuries until, by now a woman, she arrives in the bustle and diversion of the 1920's.

For Virginia Woolf, a leading figure of the Bloomsbury Group, Orlando was more than a fantastic flight of imagination. It was a roman à clef, a love letter for her lover, the charismatic, eccentric, bisexual Vita Sackville West. THIS IS NOT THE FULL UNABRIDGED VERSION !!!!

I was really unhappy to find out that this audiobook had full sentences cut out. It is a shortened version of the original novel. I would not be mad if they just told us in the description or the title that it is an abridged version. But that's not the case. 1 star should be 0 out of 5. :(
