Dan Stevens is Devine

I used to be so infatuated with Dan Stevens when he was in Downton Abbey. And then I learned he could sing, and now this.
His voice is so perfect. I tend to listen to most audiobooks in ×2 speed but I didnt want to miss any moment of his performance and listened to the whole book in normal speed. I never ever do that.
His performance was so brilliant, each character had such a distinct voice, it was extraordinary to listen to him switch from character to character.

I have been so blown away by his performance that only now will I spend a few words to express how perfect this book was. Here "it was a perfect classic book". That's all you need to know really. so many passages I highlighted. So many memorable quotes. My favourite adaptation was from the "National theatre live" With Benedict Cumberbatch as Frankenstein and Jonny Lee Miller as the creature. That's what made me want to read the book. But all three, the play the book and the audiobook where equally phenomenal. I would strongly suggest you give them a chance!

A wonderful tale and a superb narration

Please note, in case you are studying this book, that this reading is of the later version (1831) of Shelleys Frankenstein, rather than the 1818 version. Shelley re visited and re-wrote much of the book. Still possible to follow along with an older text and interesting to hear the difference however.

Dan Stevens reads incredibly well, subtle changes to his tone to portray different characters and perfect intonation throughout.
And the story / quality of writing is just beautiful... a masterpiece.

Highly recommend over others that I have heard.

This is the full story

I’m unsure why the first review that comes up days this is abridged. I started reading the 1818 text published by Penguin, and discovered this free audiobook version when I was already a third of the way in. So that I could continue “reading” while also doing things that I couldn’t if I was holding a book, I listened to parts and read others. I didn’t find any gaps or inconsistencies between the two. The book does have additional essays and commentary, but the text of the story is complete.

Great reading

The narrator picked a soft and sympathetic voice for the monster that I think fitted Shelley's vision very well. No words need be wasted on Shelley's skill, it is uncontested.

Narrator’s monster voice annoyed me

I understand pouring in emotion to better convey the story, but you made the monster sound like whiny little bitch. Really put me off tbh.
