Summary
Dombey and Son is vintage Dickens and explores the classic themes of betrayal, cruelty and deceit. Dombey's dysfunctional relationships are painted against a backdrop of social unrest in industrialized London, which is populated by a host of fascinating and memorable secondary characters. The complete and unabridged novel is brought spectacularly to life by veteran reader David Timson.

Wonderfull novel.
I was already familiar with Dombey and Son having read it twice before without the accompaniment of this Audible book. I always read the novels in hard copy while listening to achieve maximum enjoyment and in this case the experience has been sublime. John Timpson's reading is excellent and his many voices present these rich characters to perfection. I cannot recommend this audiobook more highly.

Outstanding but a little long!
Yet another brilliant novel by Dickens, beautifully read by David Timson who's range of characters was astounding. My only criticism would be it's a very long novel and at times it did drag on, but that certainly didn't put me off. I highly recommend it, it's another Dickens crossed of my list.

Enthralling Illuminating and Entertaining
Audiobooks do not come better than this engrossing rendering of one of Dickens' darker novels. There are echoes of King Lear in this story about a father who cannot bring himself to love, or even acknowledge, his daughter. Child abuse and neglect are dominant themes, as well as domestic abuse, with the author's sympathies, as always, with the victims. The reading is flawless; I could hardly bring myself to turn it off, and lamented when I reached the end.

Very entertaining novel brilliantly read
David Timson the narrator brings all Dickens’ characters alive- I’m in awe of how he gave each character its individual peculiarities and tone. I loved especially Mrs Pipchin and Susan Nipper. Also the exchanges between Rob the Grinder and Capting Cuttle. His skill matches Dickens’ skill in drawing the characters and interweaving their lives. Timson also reads sympathetically Dickens’ observations on social justice (or lack of it), the railway, the onward march of industry, and individual morality. Well worth listening to.

Dickens greatest novel
Wonderful book. It is so long and never thought I’d finish it but so glad I did. The reading of it was masterful. The reader brought all the characters to life eg mr Toots!

Fantastic!
I am working my way through all the Dickens novels and this is the best yet. The story is wonderful and the voices of each character paint their own pictures. The whole experience was just sublime.
Thank you Dickens and David Timson.

Outstanding!
I had reached 67 years on this planet without reading this book, despite Charles Dickens being one of my favourite authors. Thank heavens I rectified that error by listening to this outstanding narration. Even at nearly 40 hours it still came to an end too soon.
The relationship between mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, uncles and nephews, husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, friends and acquaintances......it's all there!
If he were alive today I suspect Dickens would have made a great therapist.
Every character came alive but Captain Cuttle was my favourite, possibly because David Timson literally became him! Wonderful.
