Among those who came with high hopes were author Pierre Berton's parents; here, he presents vividly written, firsthand accounts of the gunfights, con men, avalanches, frostbite, and starvation people endured. It is an amazing and unforgettable true story of superhuman challenges, death-defying adventure, and lifelong friendships.

"Could have been much better"
This book has OK information, but doesn't tell it in a very storylike manner. For example, it never really gets in to the miners lives or about the actual mining! The pre-stampede narrative is good though.
The narrators emphasis is all wrong and sounds somewhat condescending and is dramatic at all the wrong times.
Surely there are better choices.
"Great and profound story, enjoyable and thrilling"
powerful, funny, engaging
the stories that described the discovery of the gold, and the ones describing the end of the dream for so many.
His voice has a great gravity to it, as well as humor
I found out about Berton thru his illustrated book on the Klondike, full of amazing pictures. an incredible collection. His narrative is just as evocative.
"The Stampede for Gold is Brought to Life"
It is a lively text by the authority on the Klondike combined with a wonderful narrative voice that makes the text even more exciting.
He did brilliantly -- better than a movie.
No, I listen during my evening one-hour walks.
A superb experience.
