Sadly too predictable
I bought this on the glowing reccomendation of the marketing done for the audiobook and was looking forward to listening to it. However, sadly I found the content to be very predictable and very unorigional, it's a shame as the sample I heard sounded origional. The main problem with this audiobook is that the author sounds as if he is reading from a script to an audience. The Americans are best at sounding natural, but us English can often sound far too wooden and unconvincing unless you are natural reader which the author is not. Jonathan personal story is the most interesting part of the book, however that part is far far too small and the rest sounds cliched like some other leadership and management books and dare I say it again...unconvincing. My guess is that the main consumers of this book are those who have gone on his course and that is where the glowing reviews come from. Please save your money and pick another title. You can't say you weren't warned.

Couldn't get into it
Was listening to this on the way to work, and I really felt like it took him a long time to explain a couple of things, and I got bored and lost interest and couldn't finish it. I think he means well but the audio book just didn't gel with me.

Monotone
Whilst obvious a lot of work and research had gone into the book, it was monotone and self indulgent by the author.
I couldn't say whether there was any good teaching in there as it was a struggle to get through his self admiration.
Sorry.

MBE = Military, Business, Executive
Nothing about how to lead an educational charity project or a co-operative community venture; no, instead it's the same old dung-ho nonsense about how to be a business or military leader, as if we don't over-glorify such figures already.

Disappointing
Found the book too self-indulgent and the author shouldn't have tried to narrate - stories just became annoying with false laughs. Wasn't and didn't inspire leadership - sorry - wont make it to the end.

Not recommended.
There have only been two books in my life that I have started and not finished. The first I cannot remember the title too and I doubt I will remember the title of this, the second book.
I've got an hour into this book and so far it's been a poorly narrated, and badly edited autobiography. It wouldn't surprise me if it was done at home on a cassette recorder. Far from being a guide to Inspiring Leadership it seems to be more a story of the author's loss of his father (granted, a heroic story) and how he has grown up in the military compensating for this loss. I've tried a couple of times to revisit it but get a few minutes further in and can't bare to listen to it any more.
I would not recommend this to anyone. I try not to leave negative feedback but honestly cannot think of a single positive thing to say about it. Sorry Mr Perks!

Too much fluff
Should not have bought this book. It contains too little practical information and too much fluff and stories about his father. I suggest something like seven habits by steven covey instead. Just wasted my credit on this book.

Disappointed
I like the Leadership model (the compass) that's described in this book - it's a useful concept for thinking about your own leadership strengths and weaknesses. But overall I found the book to be excessively self indulgent, and many of the real-life anecdotes somewhat weak in trying to back up the points being made. Bailed out 2/3 of the way through.
