Summary

Jane Tennison must navigate the salacious world of theatre to solve a brutal murder in the heart of London's West End, in the brilliant new thriller from the Queen of Crime Drama, Lynda La Plante.

Things can't get much worse for Detective Jane Tennison. Unceremoniously kicked off the adrenaline-fuelled Flying Squad, she now plies her trade in Gerald Road, a small and sleepy police station in the heart of London's affluent Knightsbridge.

With only petty crime to sink her teeth into, Tennison can feel her career slowly flatlining. That is until the discovery of the most brutal murder Jane has ever seen: Charlie Foxley has been found viciously beaten to death with a cricket bat - his body dismembered and disembowelled.

As a big-time theatrical agent, Foxley had a lot of powerful friends - but just as many enemies. And alongside her old friend DS Spencer Gibbs, Tennison must journey into the salacious world of show business to find out which one is the killer, before they strike again.

Not as gripping

This is apparently Tennison book 5. Why not say that upfront. It was good but not perfect. Frankly perfection would be to know the exact Tennison timeline and listen in that order.

Brilliant murder police mystery fast paced a must

Absolutely living this series of books on getting to know how Jane Tennison got to the point of Prime Suspect, she has made yet another mistake and been chucked out of the flying squad, but a grisly murder makes up for the boredom that she is suffering, set in showbisiness the sleezier side of life soon comes about, narration was very good

FH

Really good listen with some comical characters. Another glimpse into how far females in the police force have progressed and how frustrating it must have been

Complex and intriguing

Good, intriguing and complex story that ended up in a place I'd not imagined at the start. Really well read keeping me engaged. However, I found, at times, the liberal use of the F and C swear words as part of the characterisation of some characters grating, to the extent that I considered stopping listening at one point. Fortunately, I persisted and these diminished as the story developed. Overall, a good listen.
