In general I really enjoyed this. The book is centered around his Christian faith and how he feels this has affected every area of his life. There are plenty of wrestling anecdotes to enjoy. The reader was very good but It would have been preferable if the author had read it himself as it was obvious in certain places that the reader wasn't familiar with the subject.
I found the narrator boring, old sounding and occasionally like he was drunk. It was very annoying and did not sound at all professional. The book is not a wrestling book, and although I can't fault the content for its honesty and the fact that it focuses on life and faith, I think if you are after pure wrestling stories this may not be for you. Based upon the focus not being wrestling (which is emphasised by shawn to be fair), but more so the awful reading, I cannot finish this book beyond chapter 5.
Wrestling fan who likes feminist theory and autobiographies. Go figure.
It's obviously a different take on a different point in Shawn's life, but not my favourite.
I was a bigger fan of the wrestling references than the story of his faith, but I did understand that was the purpose of the book.
I wasn't a fan of the reader. A very heavily accented voice, and considering the book is largely written in the first person, it grated.
No. It felt incredibly long to listen to.
I may have preferred the physical book.
I liked Shawns story of how he found god,
Shawn Michaels as it was the story of his life and troubles
God Given Ability
Very good insight into the rebirth of a man with self admitted issues.
Very honest and open book with an extremely feel good factor story. Even the negatives had a positive spin.
I liked the narrator as he sounded like he belonged in WWE. This went a long way to my belief and understanding of the book.
The whole book has made me look at my own life in a different light. You do not necessarily need to hit rock bottom to make changes to your self.
Very enjoyable listen and something I can relate to on most counts.
Loved the message! Great book would recommend it that is a wrestling fans, & even if your not, it's a wonderful book, very inspiring.
"Love hearing about the other side & the relationship with God"
As a long time Wrestling fan, now at the age of 42, I have seen my fair share of matters. I have gone through the phase a brand-new naïve and thinking about all of this was real. Real meaning not scripted. I was wrapped up in the excitement of the matches screening and chanting until I lost my voice. As I grew older I learned to appreciate the psychology of a match, the tempo, working the crowd, etc. It was in the latter phase that I became more interested in the personalities in the behind the scenes lives of the wrestlers. This book was right up the alley. As a Catholic, it was interesting to hear about the transformation in the inclusion of God on their lives. Thank you for a very good listen.
"Awesome book anyone can relate to"
This book exceeded my expectations. Such a great listen to hear a man spill his guts out and just be honest about personal issues he's had and sometimes he still struggles with. This is the kind of book that will make you strive to be a better man, and not in the whole bible bashing way......just in
the way of trying to be a decent human being whatever faith or beliefs you may have. MUST READ.
The book was excellent, full of relatable stories and struggles that make a legend seem like the guy next door. The problem is the reader. He did a fine job but he isn't Shawn. We know Shawn's voice and it was hard to get past that it wasn't his voice telling his stories. If Shawn read this, this would be 5 stars across the board.
Got it down in one day. Didn't like the reader because he butchered Triple H's name and sounded weird doing crown chants.
Excellent book. Love the way we are allowed to see the full faith and journey of a global wrestling superstar
"Not a bad book"
Shawn talks mostly about his faith in God. I'm okay with that but there wasn't much else besides the topic of God.
"Great Book! All Glory to God"
What a great book! Wrestling fan or not, you should listen to this book. May god continue to bless you Shawn
"Great story, about a great guy!"
It was wonderful to the story of Shawn and his family. How great is the God we serve? Read or listen to this story, and you will know!
"Great Christian Read"
As an upcoming Christian wrestler, this book helped guide me in the right direction. Being a wrestler is hard enough. Being a true Christian on top of that is even harder. But Shawn Michaels teaches you how to do just that.
