Publisher's Summary

President-elect Donald J. Trump lays out his professional and personal worldview in this classic work-a firsthand account of the rise of America's foremost deal-maker.

"I like thinking big. I always have. To me it's very simple: If you're going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big." -Donald J. Trump

Here is Trump in action-how he runs his organization and how he runs his life-as he meets the people he needs to meet, chats with family and friends, clashes with enemies, and challenges conventional thinking. But even a maverick plays by rules, and Trump has formulated time-tested guidelines for success. He isolates the common elements in his greatest accomplishments; he shatters myths; he names names, spells out the zeros, and fully reveals the deal-maker's art. And throughout, Trump talks-really talks-about how he does it. Trump: The Art of the Deal is an unguarded look at the mind of a brilliant entrepreneur-the ultimate read for anyone interested in the man behind the spotlight.

"Fascinating . . . wholly absorbing . . . conveys Trump's larger-than-life demeanor so vibrantly that the reader's attention is instantly and fully claimed." -Boston Herald

"For those who are seeking the Truth"

I bought this and listened after a reporter summarised this after reading. What I heard was the opposite of the reporter summary. For those who want to learn about Trump it is worth considering. His wife and business ethics in particular.

    "Really Good Book on Business"

I know that Donald Trump gets flak on Politics but guys trust me when i tell you that on business he gets it so right. For years i spend in the corporate world observing behaviours that would make your skin crawl and the amount of business books I read, none have made sense to the point of what really happened except when I read Donald's books. This is the second one. If someone happens to have him as a mentor then you are very lucky. He really knows people-operations in business and is an exceptional business mind. i honestly wonder why he ventured in politics because business is clearly his thing.

"Dear Donald, I love you. Love Donald - summary"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - absolutely great listen to the person who will the next President of the USA.

What other book might you compare Trump: The Art of the Deal to, and why?

Trumped - by Jack O'Connell - a former employee of Trump working at Trump Plaza- gives an alternative perspective of the book - definitively listen to this (available on Audible) after listening to Art of The Deal. Also I am currently listening to the "Making of Trump" also available on Audible.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The way Trump described and managed the Ice Rink in NY City

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No. But it gave me insight on Trump - he writes this book to build his public persona- essentially that he is great.

    Any additional comments?

The originally story behind this book was that Trump in the 80s wanted to do a bio of himself. The co-author convinced him that rather than that, do a book about a typical week in his life (his bio would not be interesting) - which the book is essentially how he does business and what he does on a day to day basis. Interesting, however, like every good story the Hero should have a flaw - unfortunately Trump is apparently flawless. It would have been good to hear about some of his greatest failures - often having a more deeper impact learning lesson, than one's success. I would describe the book as a "Love Letter" Trump wrote to himself. There are a few good business points, but if u want to know how to become a Millionaire - listen to the "Millionaire Next Door" or Robert Kiyosaki Rich Dad Poor Dad "Financial IQ" and finally Felix Dennis "How to be Rich".

If you are looking for good business pointers - this is not the book. If you want to have some insight into Donald's character than this book with a critical eye gives u some insight. I also recommend as above Trumped by Jack O'Connell.

many points glossed over but i enjoyed it anyways. he mostly bragged about how awesome he is but many of his deals were spectacular in nature and scope . i think he was a great man. Senile now but he used to be great.

    "Interesting"

I was hoping for more in depth business advice rather than story. This book is mainly story telling about Donald's life, while interesting there really wasn't a whole lot to learn in terms of the 'Art of making Deals'

    "The Real Donald Trump"

The tale we are told in the UK by the press is that Donald Trump isn't a real businessman but just someone who was simply a beneficiary of a rich dad. This very enjoyable book gives the lie to all that and if you want to know what makes Donald Trump tick I strongly encourage you to read "The Art of the Deal"

"99% daily journal, 1% business insight"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

No, I'd just read a different book.

What will your next listen be?

The Daily Stoic, by Ryan Holiday.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

    N/A

Do you think Trump: The Art of the Deal needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Schwartz has not been kind to Trump in the media recently - perhaps he should document the aftermath of all the deals, to show how many didn't pan out.

    Any additional comments?

I had some great value from Trump's book Think Big and Kick Ass back in 2008, so I expected something similar from this book. It is interesting to get an idea of how big he does think, in order to put some of these deals together, as well as hearing how he goes about assembling them. Other than that, it felt like reading through someone's journal, which is largely boring.

    "This Explains It"
    Any additional comments?

I listened to this book after Trump was elected POTUS. It's basically the blue print for his campaign.

The guy is crass, unapologetic, manipulative, and relentless in his quest to get a good deal. Manipulate tax laws or leverage the media to put pressure on others like he did with the Woolman Ice Rink renovation. Trump is Trump. This book was written in the 80s. If you're looking for him to pivot... it's not going to happen.

This book gives you a good explanation of how he operates and I was slightly more optimistic about his presidency.

Full disclosure: I didn't vote for him or his opponent Hillary Clinton; I considered both to be a disaster but since this is the disaster we're living with... the book gives you insight into how Trump operates.

Narration is good, too with a pompous northeast accent.

"Surprise Ending - No real information here"

This book reads like an itinerary/schedule. There's very little valuable information - this "novel" has little insight into the practical process of creating or drafting a deal & very little insight into the phycology of crafting a deal. There are of course nuggets of good info spread sparsely around the pages, but their primary purpose is to encourage you to read on in hopes of finally hitting the good stuff. The book has a surprise ending, the good stuff never comes. What this book does provide is an insight into how many doors being from a successful family opens. Enjoy!

    "inside the mind of Trump"

The book is relevant because Tump is a presidential nominee. it shows he knows how to run businesses, negotiate and is a great competitor who hates to lose. His downfall seems to be his ego and his childish attacks on all those who oppose him, clearly this is being used effectly by the Democrats and the media.

It is sobering to read this and hear the events he is describing in here as being last week occur more than 3 decades ago. The book has a good tone, offers good vibes and is an overall a good read written by a real estate developer going thru hard times by chronically get his past successes. Now if the stories in here are actually true is a matter of diving to actual untainted sources of history, aside from this book.

Great story about patience and never settling for less than what you want. I like how he never jumped into a deal to fast he had several steps he would make before getting completely involved in anything.

    "Great listen"

Trump does the intro, reader sounds a lot like him. Finished faster than I expected.
The book is a bio to around 1987, when it was originally released. It's also got thumbnail sketches of a lot of his projects from his point of view. Listening to it makes you realize that to make big bucks, you have to know what you're doing.
Fascinating inside look at guys who build skyscrapers, especially for a guy like me that never put together a bigger deal than buying a home.
