Critic reviews

"Burns with the luminosity of faith in the invincible nature of human hope and dignity....Unforgettable" (Andre Brink)

"Enthralling.... Mandela emulates the few great political leaders such as Lincoln and Gandhi, who go beyond mere consensus and move out ahead of their followers to break new ground." (Sunday Times)

I have long wanted to read this book, when I found I could listen to it and it was read by Danny Glover I jumped at the chance to get it. I could listen to this audiobook for hours with Danny Glover reciting the African names so easily and making me believe I was in Nelson Mandela's thoughts when he wrote this book.

It has an added bonus at the end where you can listen to the actual speech Nelson Mandela gave during his inauguration as President of South Africa.

I extremely enjoyed listening to this audiobook and would buy more as it is a way to relax and have another voice to capture my imagination.

The pronunciation of African words is not great. Obviously an amazingly inspirational autobiography and the audiobook is a great way to experience it.

I really liked it, the only setback for me was the fact that it had a lot of historical facts, while I would be more interested in Nelson Mandela's thoughts and reflections.
I have no idea whether the unabridged book has some more philosophical content. For me, Mandela is one of the greatest people of all times, a mentor, and spiritual leader, not only political, so I didn't get much from that department.
But it was great to get to know more about this remarkable human being.
