Summary

The universe is a playground for the ultra-rich, and Jay has found himself aboard the ultimate luxury cruise. But this isn't your ordinary vacation—it's a luxury warfare experience, where the passengers battle each other with simulated weapons and technology. What Jay is after, though, has nothing to do with the games. Worse, when an alien race arrives to reclaim their planet, the luxury warfare cruise is the only thing standing in their way.

If you enjoyed the suspense and action of The Expanse series, you'll love this thrilling science fiction tale of heroism and sacrifice.

Great story, the narration, not so much.

This is a fairly straightforward but entertaining mini space opera, in which civilians get caught up in an alien invasion. The writing is no-frills and pacy, and the glimpse we get of the alien civilization was intriguing and left me wanting to know more. Star Trek fans would love it, I imagine. There was a personal sub plot which was skilfully entwined with the main narrative.

I didn't like the narration and ended up buying the eBook instead. His tone was rather hammy, like Troy McClure in the Simpsons, the characters all sounded the same and sometimes, the emphasis was placed on the wrong words in the sentence, it seemed to me. There was though some good, sparely used special effects applied to the voice.

Like I say, though, the book is great and I'll probably check out some of the author's other stuff at some point.
