Nicely acted and an enjoyable play but latter half of the play got a bit predictable and silly. In some ways this is down to the story but minus the literary delivery of Zola it came across as a little rushed and melodramatic
A good listen and a good play to enjoy on a lazy afternoon but overall three stars - good/ok
I L❤️ve My Audio Books
A great classic from Emile Zola, one of my favourite French writers whose works focuses on the socio political status of the French divide between the rich & the poor living in the Victorian era of which I have a great knowledge and interest and whom Zola is a perfectionist at his trade.
For those who love Emile Zola's work, have an interest in the Victorian era or just wish to listen to a good old drama with lots of twists and turns in a plot that actually has moral body in this intriguing story, this is one to enjoy many times. To say would give too much away and spoil the plot.
A full five star rating for this five star production and an excellent professional cast who are just perfect and bring this drama to life and exhilarate everything as Zola intended. Of course, we are more open now in our modern world of equality. Unlike the times this was written and shocked its audiences with its openness about the realities of life. I love listening to this drama every now and again and it still has the appeal each time and gives me that same old feeling as it draws to its haunting end.
