Summary
Escaping the war-ridden town of El Salvador in 1979, an eight-year-old girl set off to seek refuge in the United States. This story is about Anna (Riccasuave)—a loving daughter, a trusted friend, a compassionate mother, and an inspiring survivor.
From spending her childhood days struggling to find work to feed the hungry mouths at home, to experiencing the trauma that comes with being a foster child, Anna has witnessed the worst forms of abuse and gut-wrenching adversities throughout her life, but no matter what the universe has tested Anna with, she has always come out a stronger individual.
The life of Amazing Anna is a journey of overcoming childhood abandonment, emotional turmoil, physical and sexual abuse, the grief of losing loved ones, heartbreak, and figuring out our place in this world.
The story begins with her early years spent in El Salvador with her mother and grandmother, Rosa Eva and Mamita Ines. Anna was eight years old when she set out to immigrate to the US on foot; from that point on, she moved from one foster home to another. The struggles she faced, the people she met along the way, the relationships that came together and fell apart—they have shaped and transformed Anna into the woman she is today.
In present day, Anna is a mother to a beautiful young woman, a grandmother to an energetic child, and a wife to an understanding husband. She shares her story of survival to give a voice to all those who have been victims of abuse, manipulation, and trauma, and those who are struggling to stay afloat in this cruel world.
