Summary

From the best-selling author of Cry Baby, the beginning of a brilliant and gripping police procedural series set in Liverpool, perfect for fans of Peter James and Mark Billingham.

A woman at home in Liverpool is disturbed by a persistent tapping at her back door. She's disturbed to discover the culprit is a raven and tries to shoo it away. Which is when the killer strikes.

DS Nathan Cody, still bearing the scars of an undercover mission that went horrifyingly wrong, is put on the case. But the police have no leads except the body of the bird - and the victim's missing eyes.

As flashbacks from his past begin to intrude, Cody realises he is battling not just a murderer but his own inner demons, too. And then the killer strikes again, and Cody realises the threat isn't to the people of Liverpool after all - it's to the police.

Following the success and acclaim of the Callum Doyle novels, A Tapping at My Door is the first instalment of David Jackson's new Nathan Cody series.

Narrator should be shot

What did you like best about A Tapping at My Door? What did you like least?

The characters were ok and the story seemed to be going well. I just couldnt finish the book becuase the Narator put me off with his oevr dramatic sentances and breathing. Its a Liverpool based book not a 3 part trilogy in Hollywood
The most annoying part is the authors continual references to the main characters dark past - bit tedious

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Didn't finish it as i got bored

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Loads - awful

If this book were a film would you go see it?

No

Great start to a series

Very dark story but well put together this should be the start of a very good partnership. Again another brilliant narration by Mr Keeble...he is the best !!!👍

Good tense thriller

This book was well read and the story flowed really well without any padding in the middle. A surprise ending for me which I prefer. I don't see the point in muder/mystery novels revealing the culprit at the beginning. Interesting characters and good accents by the reader will keep you hooked to the end.

The Cleansing Vol 2

I've no idea which of these books was written first but hearing this book gives the greatest sense of deja vu - particularly if you've listened to Bill Roger's 'The Cleansing'. Both are quite good but also suffer from that interchangeable quality of so many thrillers.

On the plus side, our hero here is quite well drawn and without the checklist of quirks and hobbies that Alan Partridge so beautifully (and unknowingly skewers) with his own regional detective 'Swallow'. The story starts very well, drifts towards more conventional territory then finally succumbs to the pressure of a rush job. In fairness, the big reveal is surprisingly divisive and will definitely make or break the book for you.

Overall a weak but cogent story, excellent narration and despite a few flaws the author pays respect to the reader by offering a detective that's almost normal. Recommended if on daily deal

I so enjoyed this book

I really enjoyed this book it was quite dark but the Liverpool sense of humour kept coming out and at the really dark places something was said which made me laugh I am definitely going to download more of this authors books I think this one was great

predictable

yet another emotionally crippled male detective and many other clichés . why can't male coppers be relatively ordinary blokes and the work be complex and challenging. Well read.

Unexpected pleasure

I love books by Lynda Le Plante, Michael Robotham and Val McDermid etc. l had not heard of David Jackson but took a chance. What a lucky find. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was narrated really well and the story had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. What I loved was that I worked out enough to make me feel clever but not to solve the entire crime.
I have immediately downloaded the next in the series.
