Ridiculous

The heroine has become a lady's maid due to her family's misfortunes. Having no experience, she is placed with the daughter of a wealthy tradesman - as people of that class couldn't possibly have any idea of whether the lady's maid had experience or not!
After just a month as maid to the daughter, she is sent as sole companion to accompany said daughter to her wedding to a penniless marquess whom the daughter had never met. The daughter is dead set against the marquess as she wants to marry a rake who had declared undying love for her. These are just the first two chapters. There is still far more absurdity to come. Had it been written as a farce, I could, perhaps, forgive it.
The narrator over acts.
