Summary
On an icy night in Northern Sweden Joel is drawn outside to haunt the streets. He finds the night-time activity of his stolid town mesmerising in its unexpectedness and variety. But can he deal with the knowledge that he gains about his neighbours, his father, and himself?

Magical
I think this was written for children, but that does not at all detract from the prose which is excellently and beautifully crafted. The style so surprised me as I have only before experienced Henning Mankell though the Wallander series. Mankell really is a fantastic writer and as much as I love Wallander, I feel like I have discovered a jewel in his non-crime fiction.
