Summary
An astonishing work of cutting-edge science and cultural history that radically reframes how we understand the vagina - and consequently, how we understand women - from one of our most respected cultural critics and thinkers, Naomi Wolf, author of the modern classic The Beauty Myth.
When an unexpected medical crisis sends Naomi Wolf on a deeply personal journey to tease out the intersections between sexuality and creativity, she discovers, much to her own astonishment, an increasing body of scientific evidence that suggests that the vagina is not merely flesh, but an intrinsic component of the female brain - and thus has a fundamental connection to female consciousness itself.
Utterly enthralling and totally fascinating, Vagina: A New Biography draws on this set of insights about "the mind-vagina connection" to reveal new information about what women really need, and considers what a sexual relationship - and a relationship to the self - transformed by these insights could look like.
Exhilarating and groundbreaking, Vagina: A New Biography combines rigorous science, explained for lay listeners, with cultural history and deeply personal considerations of the role of female desire in female identity, creativity, and confidence, from interviewees of all walks of life. Heralded by Publishers Weekly as one of the best science books of the year, it is a provocative and deeply engaging book that elucidates the ties between a woman's experience of her vagina and her sense of self; her impulses, dreams, and courage; and her role in love and in society in completely new and revelatory ways sure to provoke impassioned conversation.
A brilliant and nuanced synthesis of physiology, history, and cultural criticism, Vagina: A New Biography explores the physical, political, and spiritual implications of this startling series of new scientific breakthroughs for women and for society as a whole, from a writer whose conviction and keen intelligence have propelled her works to the tops of bestseller lists, and firmly into the realms of modern classics.

Must read/listen
We need more books like this. It confirms what women know instinctively through science and brings further enlightenment even the most savvy of us. Especially educational for those who claim ‘women are complicated’.
I found it a bit too anecdotal and the science is not necessarily the strongest, but that’s understandable given how few studies are carried out by women, with women’s pleasure in mind.
Narration is quite gimmicky at times.
Nonetheless, this is a must read.

Vagina
This book is a must read for males and females. It is the key to the mysteries of life and in my opinion happiness. We surely need to open our minds to evidence already gathered from both scientists and people that have real life experience.

Intelligent and Shocking
I LOVED this book. From start to finish I was astounded at the history that was revealed and utterly enthralled by the new science surrounding women's vagina's and how society sculpts our relationship with them. It's a book that I think should be on every woman's shelf, and I plan on gifting it to lots of friends. I can't wait to listen to more of Naomi Wolfs work and couldn't recommend the book more!
I also loved the narrator but listened to her at x1.25 as I felt she read a little slowly.

exceptionally interesting
I wish I had the hard copy of this book.. to circle and reread the best moments.. I've learned so much from this book.. It's not something like romance you would read in one day or a few hours.. I needed to listen to this book, to understand it.. and put it away, digest what I have learned and continue to listen again.. I will definitely buy the hard copy of this book and it will be treasured in my household. I will let my future children read it and understand it too! This should be a must read book in sex education classes.

This book took me on an awakening journey
I absolutely loved this book and will read it again. I think every woman and girl should read this book, and then educate the men in their environment about it's content. That would mean a beautiful world.

Some execellent parts, but ignorant of men
There's lots that's really useful here, for those interested in people with vaginas. Autonomous Nervous System stimulation, ("set, setting, dosage"), etc. brain-vagina axis etc. But the story is told from a perspective of misandry - that is "western men are ignorant brutes who have to be educated into not abusing their delicate female partners". No, wrong. Many men may not have had access to guidance and teachings, but the majority of men deeply care for their partners. Take the attitude out of the book, and you'd have a fabulous wealth of information at 1/2 the length. As it is, you need a lot of patience to endure relentless unfounded assertions about men (a lot of the book is based on a narrative that that men are to blame for the state of female sexuality, ignoring that women are willing participants in today's sexual marketplace).
