Summary
He was my beginning. And my never-ending.
Ellis
There’s a lot I’ve never told my best friend. The fact that I love him. That I miss him every day he’s gone. That, sometimes, I ache for him with a ferocity that leaves me breathless.
Lucky Buchanan tore into my life as a boy, wild and daring, my opposite in every way. He drew me in, stole my heart without trying. He hears me, even though I rarely speak a word. But I always knew this place wouldn’t be enough for my free-spirited friend. I knew he wasn’t mine to keep.
So why, when I finally try to get over him, does he sweep back into town? Why is he upset? Why is there tension between us for the first time in years?
I never saw a future where Lucky could be mine. But now, unless I want to lose my friend, I might not have a choice but to tell the truth. My heart belongs to him. It has from the start.
If only I knew how to hold onto a creature that’s meant to fly.
To Catch a Firefly is a standalone, childhood friends-to-lovers romance told in dual POV. There’s epic levels of pining, a neurodivergent MC with selective mutism, two friends who always come back to one another, glass hearts and romantic declarations, and a HEA beneath the night sky.

Outstanding book
I think that this is probably one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read. I saw all the great reviews of it - but decided to “book-edge” myself and wait for the audiobook. Right now I’m almost mad at myself for waiting - but also incredibly happy that the audiobook was so worth the wait! This is the most beautiful story about friendship and unconditional love, support and respect and the narration is out of this world! Just a masterpiece!

Outstanding!
The beginning had me for a bit. It was stretching out as they sidestepped each other but then the whole story exploded into beautiful love! The narrators and narration on this was spot on! They made the characters come to life. Absolutely perfect!!

I'm torn...
I fell in love with Ellis & Lucky from the beginning of this book, I just adored their characters individually, as friends and as more when they got there. As the mother of a neurodivergent child I really appreciate how Emmy wrote Ellis she didn't make him a clichéd representation of someone who is neurodivergent and the interactions depicted between Ellis and his mum & Lucky were wonderful. He was surrounded by people who accept him for who he is and the level of understanding Lucky has to interpret Ellis's non verbal communication was lovely to see represented in a book.
This story is beautifully written, it is romantic in its longing and emotional moments of these two best friends wanting each other but not knowing how to go about getting it. Ellis wants Lucky to be free to pursue his dreams he just isn't aware that one of those dreams is Lucky wants to be with Ellis. There are some time jumps spanning a couple of years but they are done in a cohesive way and add to the pining both characters go through. My issue with this lies in the fact that they ended up together sooner than I expected in the book and there was still a sizeable chunk to go so I spent majority of that chunk expecting a shoe to drop/something high angst to happen to put these characters and their relationship to the test and other than a slight blip between them at one point there was nothing. As much as I wanted to protect these characters from harm I needed for them to have to fight for it on some level, it was all a bit too easy once they admitted how they felt for each other. After the first half of the book I was craving more angst I guess. The chemistry between them was great as was the spice when we get there was good too, although considering Ellis is a Virgin and on the spectrum I was expecting more awe of discovery or perhaps awkwardness in those moments than there was. Overall I enjoyed this book the neurodivergent representation was done so well and these characters and the epilogue was super sweet, I just expected/wanted more from the second half of the story. 🌶🌶
