Summary
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Thomas Harris’ legendary best-seller, Audible presents The Silence of the Lambs, with a new introduction written and read by the author himself.
An FBI trainee. A psychopath locked up for unspeakable crimes. And a serial killer getting ever closer to his latest victim...
Seeking insight into the deadly madman she must find, FBI rookie Clarice Starling turns to Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a monster cannibal held in a hospital for the criminally insane. As Dr. Lecter invites Clarice into the darkest chambers of his mind, he forces her to confront her own childhood demons in return for knowledge; an unspeakable tuition he exacts to teach her how the monster thinks. But time is running out…
An instant classic of chilling psychological suspense, The Silence of the Lambs will take you from the tormenting words of a homicidal maniac and the flesh-rending depravity of an elusive killer to the sheer courage of a young FBI novice, who risks her life to track him down and stop the bloodshed.
A native of Mississippi, Thomas Harris began his writing career covering crime in the United States and Mexico, and was a reporter and editor for the Associated Press in New York City. His first novel, Black Sunday, was published in 1975, followed by Red Dragon in 1981, The Silence of the Lambs in 1988, Hannibal in 1999, and Hannibal Rising in 2006.
All the Hannibal Lecter books have been made into films, most notably starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster. Sky has also produced a television series based on the notorious mass murderer, starring Mads Mikkelsen, Laurence Fishburne and Hugh Dancy.

"A huge talent" (Ian Rankin)
"The best book I've read in a very long time. Subtle, horrific and splendid" (Roald Dahl)

Great story - awful quality recording
The story in, every way, is great and I'm now enjoying revisiting all of the books in the series followed by the films.
The only downside, and it's a bigy, is the quality of the recording. It's too quiet and there is a constant white noise background. It sounds as if it's playing from a reel to reel tape! Made listening an effort at times which doesn't suit the multitasking listener at all.

Brilliant story, lacklustre reading.
An enjoyable book but the narrator is muffled and seems to be having trouble staying awake.

Loved going back to this..
It's strange to go back to basics after the films and TV series but I'm glad I did as the source material is great. Hannibal comes alive again and we revisit Starlings character and humble beginnings. Well written by Harris. Very well read by the narrator. I would recommend this. I'm now off to start 'Hannibal' the next installment.

A captivating thriller
I read this book many years ago, and of course have seen the film several times. But even knowing the story inside out, I still found the audiobook of “The Silence of the Lambs” near-impossible to put down. The storytelling is so captivating that you will find yourself saying “just *one* more chapter before I go to sleep” again and again.
Frank Muller’s narration was excellent; he has a sombre, slightly creepy tone that fits this book to a T. I’ll be keeping an eye out for other books narrated by him.
My only criticisms are that the author’s introduction was boring and unnecessary, and that every now and then throughout the recording you can faintly hear other people talking in the recording studio, which is rather amateurish.

Superb story, a great book
I have been meaning to read (or listen) to this novel for years, having finally got around to it I wish I'd done it sooner. Excellent story, even though the film follows this closely, so few surprises, it was still a fantastic listen. One of those really great books, a superbly crafted and written story.
Narration was also excellent and perfectly suited to the story.
As other have said the actual recording quality is a little disappointing for such a great book. There is continual white noise in the background, and very occasionally seemingly very quiet conversations going on in the background. Note it's not enough to ruin or distract from the listening experience to any great extent, just a little annoying.

Wonderful audio book !
I know I loved the film when it came to our little old cinema in Deal. I went on to buy the book and remember finding so many more facts.
So, many years on now I sat crafting at my table and decided to buy this audiobook.
I have not been disappointed and know I shall be listening again, in fact many times, I’m sure.

Still excellent after all these years
I read this years ago, saw the movie & read again. I can hear the age of the book in descriptions of weapons & tools employed by FBI, especially the speed loaders but the main engagement of the story is still strong.
A great thriller for its time and still works!
The field of behaviour science has come a long way, but one doesn’t have to suspend belief, not when you remember those you dealt with as a law enforcement officer!
Read it, read it again, or rather listen to Frank Muller who is a tragic loss to Audible and all of us who loved his voice1
