Summary

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME. OR IS THERE?

After an 'incident' one wet Friday night where he is found walking naked through the streets of Cambridge, Professor Andrew Martin is not feeling quite himself. Food sickens him. Clothes confound him. Even his loving wife and teenage son are repulsive to him. He feels lost amongst an alien species and hates everyone on the planet. Everyone, that is, except Newton, and he's a dog. Who is he really? And what could make someone change their mind about the human race . . . ?

Funny, sad, beautiful, uplifting

Just excellent! Especially for those struggling with their faith in humanity. A much needed tale recognizing the ugliness and terrible things of humanity but then leading the reader/listener to find astounding beauty shining through the cracks of human fallibility and mortality.

It was ok

For me it was just ok, an easy listen. I think I just couldn’t find anything to like (or dislike enough to keep me interested) about the main character or any others.

A beautiful thought provoking book

This was an excellent book. At times it made you laugh, at times it made you think. At times it was beautiful. At times it was sad. I loved every minute of it. And after all, isn’t love the thing all humans crave?

Whimsically heartwarming

I smiled and dispaired at the familiarity and honesty of the observations about human nature.

Really enjoyable book

Really enjoyed the story and insight of what it’s like to be a human. Great humour and it’s hard to pause. Well performed as well.

Change of Perspective

Good listen, easy to get into and builds up quite nicely, I just found it lacking in some areas, but then would come a line that would catch me off guard and have me bursting out loud with laughter. The perspective of the main character does make you look at everything a little more deeply, and if anything question maths a little more into the world

Beautiful, funny and relatable

This book exceeded my expectations and I enjoyed it from start to finish. (Except for that f*****g one f*****g chapter that f*****g never f*****g ended.. I skipped that one at about "nr. 42". Do yourself a favor and skip it after "nr. 7")

I was absolutely entranced from the very first minute and it kept going really stronly until the last third of the book where it became a little more fumbling and had a hard time landing. I'm left a little bit dissapointed after such a strong start, but I still really enjoyd the book and would recommend it to others. Give it a listen.

The narration is absolutely fantastic!

Preferred The Midnight Library

I downloaded this book after finishing the Midnight Library so had high expectations for this book. It was humorous in parts but half way through I knew that this wasn’t really my cup of tea. I do however enjoy looking at life through Matt Haig’s perspective. If only more humans did.

Loved it!

Loved it! Started out as a nerdy sci-fi giggle reminiscent of hitchhikers guide, but turned into something more sensitive an genuinely touching. Choked me up towards the end
