Summary

Start right here! Discover the Dr Ruth Galloway Mysteries and become obsessed with one of the most popular crime series in Britain.

'Galloway now seems as real as Marple and Morse' The Times

'I've never before read a crime novel in which archaeology and detection blend as successfully as in The Crossing Places' Shots

Dr Ruth Galloway is called in when a child's bones are discovered near a prehistoric site on the north Norfolk salt marshes. Are they the remains of a local girl who disappeared ten years earlier - or are the bones much older?

DCI Harry Nelson refuses to give up the hunt for the missing girl. Since she vanished, someone has been sending him creepy anonymous notes about ritual sacrifice. He knows that Ruth's expertise and experience could help him finally to put this case to rest.

But when a second child goes missing, Ruth finds herself in danger from a killer who knows she's getting ever closer to the truth.

HER BEST BOOK BY FAR. OUTSTANDING.

LOVED THIS BOOK. CLEVER, GREAT LONG STORY. OUTSHINES BOOKS 2 AND 3 BY MILES WHICH IS SAD.

evocative and intelligent crime story

The story was quite gripping at the start, well written, interesting characters, and the unique landscape is beautifully evoked and woven in, like a character in its own right. I also loved the archeology part. Narration and production were excellent. The crime mystery however was a bit predictable and formulaic, and personally I didn't much care for all the lovey-dovey, pregnancy and motherhood stuff. Don't know that I'm bothered listening to other books in the series.

The Fens

I enjoyed learning about Norfolk and the Fens. Then add in the archeology working alongside the police it makes for a realistic setting.

Lovely descriptions of landscapes.

Her understanding of archeology and her knowledge of the area makes it a very interesting read

Debut best one

Characters introduced and endings open; loved the archaeology and strange atmosphere of marshes. Highly recommend

Good story, goes on a bit about being fat.

I did guess the end really early, but that's not a bad thing. the narration is a bit annoying, they should have cleaned it up more, I really dislike the spittle sounds at the end of the sentences. I understand about character description but by the end if the first couple of chapters I got a fed up of hearing that she that she is fat. she's 12st for goodness sake! Got on my nerves!
