Summary

‘I keep feeling like I’m being watched - dropping the boys off at school, choosing wine at the supermarket - but when I turn around there’s nobody there....’

When single mother Darcy’s son falls from a rope bridge at a local playground, life stands still. She clutches his small, limp body, frozen, until a pair of strong hands push her aside, and she watches as George, a local doctor, saves her son’s life.

George, with his twinkling hazel eyes, easy charm and lack of wedding band is almost too good to be true, but coffee becomes lunch, lunch becomes dinner, and soon they can’t go an evening without seeing each other. When he invites her to move into his beautiful home with its sprawling garden for her boys, Darcy doesn’t hesitate.

But as Darcy is settling in, she receives a bunch of flowers with a chilling message.

George says they’re from an obsessed ex-girlfriend, Opal, and days later Opal turns up at Darcy’s son’s football match. She claims to have shocking information that could threaten George’s custody of his daughter.

Darcy doesn’t know whom to trust, but she’s starting to suspect that, whatever the truth, she might have put her beloved boys into terrible danger....

From the million-copy-best-selling author K.L. Slater, this utterly gripping psychological thriller will make you gasp out loud as you race towards the unforgettable twist. If you loved The Girl on the Train and The Wife Between Us this book is for you.

Enjoyable but...

I did enjoy this. I like both the author and narrator. However, I think it became a little silly towards the end and for me went from a very enjoyable book to not such a good one.

Twists & Turns aplents

I've deducted 1 star for narration as some of her female voices sounds far to similar. This made it hard to know who was talking - It meant I was having to rewind after finding a clue in the dialogue to know who was doing, thinking etc rather than just sitting back and lossing myself in the story.

The majority of the plot twists where very easy for me to see beforehand but happly there where a few to keep me on my toes - very enjoyable

Definitely worth a Listen

Was a little slow to get started but obviously characters needed the back story explained. Not long before the reader realizes there is something more sinister going on. Once the action steps up you get very invested in each character although your not really sure who you support. Loved the twists and made for a thoroughly enjoyable listen. The narrator is very pleasant on the ear and I definitely would chose other books she has narrated.

Complex story line

This book was not what I expected . A lot darker than I thought it would be . The story is a little convoluted and I found it quite confusing toward the end . However all the pieces are tied up quite neatly though I was still left perplexed by the wife Lucy , I don’t think this was addressed sufficiently .
Still very good read and quite unput down able at the end

Worth the effort-eventually

I started this book and gave up numerous times. The beginning drags and grates. But eventually I got into it. Very convoluted plot. Characters easily muddled. Think main problem is the narrator who reads most of the female characters in similar voices lacking expression. Maybe author should choose different narrator next time. They can make or break an audio book.

Doesnt live up to the authors other amazing titles

dragged on a bit then all the drama happened at once with not as much description or suspense as the authors other titles.

Ridiculous

What a ridiculous far fetched ending! The inter personal
Relationships in the story were quite valid but the ludicrous ending ruined the story
It’s not terribly well written either - the narration is good and easy to listen to - but in general I would say do not waste your time
