Jodi Picoult is the author of 17 number 1 UK bestsellers. Now with Mad Honey she has joined up with co-author Jennifer Finney Boylan to give us the most compelling, challenging and contemporary novel you will read this year - and which will start conversations we need to have.
Olivia fled her abusive marriage to return to her hometown and take over the family beekeeping business when her son was six. Now Asher is over 6 feet tall and in his last year of high school, a kind, good-looking, popular ice hockey star with a tiny sprite of a new girlfriend who Olivia loves. Then Lily is found with a catastrophic head injury at the bottom of the stairs - and Asher is arrested on a charge of murder. . . What was the truth of their relationship?

Great story; disappointing ending
Narrators were good and made for easy listening, but neither of the narrators did well when it came to voicing different characters.
The story opened up perfectly, with each character vivid and so well presented to the reader. So all was great; right until the end, which seemed rushed and didn't hang as well as the rest. it rather spoiled the whole thing for me. Although I did see the end coming I expected a far better and believable execution of it.

Utterly Eye Opening
I have read so many of Jodi’s books, the very vast majority of which I have loved. This topped them all, I have an understanding of “bees” that I really needed. Beautifully written

Good read
Over all I enjoyed the book and was keen to keep listening to hear the end. At times it felt like the writer was trying to draw out certain chapters or fit in all the facts and emotions rather than focusing on the flow of the story but I would definitely recommend.

A book for our time
Idon't think you can read this book without feeling some sort of emotion. It feels to me like the authors have used this story as a way of adding their voices to the fierce debate about trans and women's rights that is currently raging. Fantastic narration and fascinating side facts about bee keeping help to carry this somewhat predictable court-room drama along. This is definitely a moving portrayal of the teenage trans experience.

I loved every inch of this book
The backwards way it was written, the two voices, the two narrators, the kindness and tenderness with which this story was crafted. Thank you ladies 💚💚💚

Well worth a listen
This book is very well written by two authors who have managed to weave a powerful story together through the voices of two powerful women.
It was the bee theme that originally attracted me to the novel and for those of you who are interested in bees , there are enough technical details to make it a valid choice.
However, the main story of Asher's love for Lily and the American legal system is written with compassion, passion and meticulous attention to detail. I learned a great deal.
I am left with that bitter sweet sadness that signifies the end of a great book when you wish it would continue.
