Summary
“Luke” Hamilton has always been sure she’d never marry. She accepted that she would spend her life alone when she chose to live her life disguised as a man.
After working in a brothel for three years, Nora Macauley has lost all illusions about love. She no longer hopes for a man who will sweep her off her feet and take her away to begin a new, respectable life.
But now, they find themselves married and on the way to Oregon in a covered wagon, with 2,000 miles ahead of them.

The best surprise I've ever read/listened to
There were times I would just sit and stare off into the distance, forgetting about the world around me and get immersed into this world, I never wanted it to end and when it did i wanted to go right back to the beginning and start again.

It’s hard to get a better story
Luke and Nora’s story is a long slow burn romance. With everything a great western movie would have including the villains and the heroes. I own this in paperback, ebook and audio. Worth every penny.

Slow burn Lesbian pioneer wives for the win.
this is my "go-to" audio, I've listened to it at least 7 times and will probably listen many times more.
the performance by Bishop is superb and I wish to marry Luke myself if it wouldn't mean their relationship ended.
while predictable in places and perhaps drawn out in others, I feel it's important to remember it's a 2000 mile journey, it was absolutely going to be a slow burn...
I look forward to listening to this story again in the future as I know I will come back to Luke and Nora again and again.

Jae did it again- I bow before her writing.
It took me a bit to get into but once I did I adored this book. It's beautiful.
I love the fluidity of Luke's gender. I thought it was really well written and I enjoyed reading their perspective. And another note on their character I loved the way they interact with Amy and the other children. (I'm using they/them pronouns for Luke because even though they use she/her for themselves I just feel like if Luke were alive now they would be gender fluid and/or trans masc)
Luke was my favourite character simply because I thought they were the most interesting to be inside the head of. But I love Nora too. I love her strong will and her fire as well as her compassion. I thought the character of Bernice was fascinating. I loved Amy and the other kids but I just love kids in general so that wasn't surprising. My favourite relationship in the book was (un)surprisingly Luke and Amy.
The writing fully immersed me in the world. I believed I was on the Oregon Trail with Luke and Nora and the Garfields and everyone. I have a love/hate relationship with slow burn stories because on one hand they're beautiful and give me more of the story but on the other hand I want to smack the characters on the head and tell them to just kiss already!!
I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the Oregon series!

rarely do I get excited and gush my opinion forth. but this unique story is so well written I can't stop, even to my doctors receptionist. a big fan of cowboy films growing up I've found the books in that genre lacking until now, the experience has been wonderful, ty Jae and Hayden for her narration.

Amazing
I loved this book when I read it and love it even more on audible. The narrator did a fantastic job, bringing more depth to the story. A must have for sure.

Wonderful!
This is a compelling story which draws you into another world. I’m only sorry that I’ve finished it. Jae’s character development is always excellent and her longer novels show this even more. The narration does the story justice. Don’t miss out!

One of my favourite books.
I first got this book as Kindle and paperback versions.
I was thrilled to see it in the Audible catalogue.
It's well researched, well developed, and has you wanting the happy ever after both the main characters are hoping for, if for totally different reasons to start with.
I didn't mind the narrator, although I think she actually did a slightly better job on the sequel, 'Hidden Truths'.

Best of the best
In my humble opinion this story truly rates as one of the best LGBT I have ever listened to.
The characters are all well thought out and believable.
The pace of story, only leaves you wanting more and never disappoints.
The author has really thought about the time period and blended character, pace and unbelievably very nicely.
This is only matched by Hayden Bishop"s unique narration, definitely a awesome combination.
I would recommend this book to all those of you out there who believe in the art of storey telling, and to those who may be wanting to try this subject matter for the first time.
What more can I say, just perfect !
