Just annoying
Feeble heroine, clichéd characters, tedious dialogue, and worst of all, a lengthy dream sequence. Won't bother with any more of this series.

White Silence
This is the first of this author's books that I have read and I enjoyed it so much. I understood another reviewer who had said he had to read it all in one sitting. It's a story so exciting and hopeful. So magical without being magic. I suppose psychological thriller with genuine magical powers coming from our heroine would be an excellent way to describe it. I can't wait for book 2!!

Can't rate this highly enough
Didn't think I'd find anything to top my previous favourite but this is it. Really hope there will be more to follow.
The main character is likeable and well played, the small supernatural element believable and it truly kept me guessing right to the end. A real adventure while also giving some beautiful description and remaining tasteful with no sex, little violence and minimal swearing.
This would particularly appeal to anyone who enjoyed Stephen King's "Insomnia"

Good but could have been great.
Very interesting , but seemed like a couple of books in one in terms of the direction and flow. Just noticed that this is book one , so is maybe setting the scene for other follow on books. Will definitely keep an eye out for later books in same series.

Another ‘must have’ read by Jodi Taylor!
Well. I love the St Mary books. Can’t get enough of them. So, I didn’t really want to be dragged into another series as I already don’t have enough time to read all the books on my TBR pile. Sadly, Jodi Taylor had dragged me into another world. It’s drastically different from the St Mary’s novels, although still set in Rushford. It’s not said specifically, but I think this is more our timeline than a time of airships and to be honest, that made it more chilling for me. Oh yes - this isn’t the gentle humour of Max and her Merry men, far from it. Yes, there are still glimpses of it and there is a lovely relationship in it with quips backwards and forwards between them, but overall this is a dark novel which delves into some uncomfortable subjects. Don’t let that put you off, though. It’s not ‘in your face’ at all, it’s just occasionally chilling.
I can’t really say much about the plot without giving away spoilers, so I won’t. It’s a very small cast of characters and as a result they are quite well fleshed out and there is room for more in future novels. It ends on a cliffhanger so I am looking forward to the next book - which I have just downloaded - and can’t wait to see if…well, I just can’t wait.
Jodi Taylor’s writing style still comes through, the plot twists and turns and races along, and the unexpected gets thrown in to detour the narrative. I really enjoyed it. I’m now invested in yet another Jodi Taylor world, which isn’t a bad thing.

Everything Jodi Taylor writes is brilliant
How does she do it ! This is a different style again and its brilliant. I am hoping there will be a follow on to this book as the ideas and characters deserve it .

Disappointing
Started off reasonably well but the storyline was weak. I listened to the end but with little enthusiasm. I vaguely remember a mention of Stephen King on a review but I'm sorry this came nowhere near.

Intriguing but disappointed
Great potential after a slow start. I was intrigued, and at times holding my breath at some scenes. Very disappointing end!

White Silence 'grippingly' different.
Would you consider the audio edition of White Silence to be better than the print version?
I read book and it scarred me so much in places it made me hyperventilate. I then played the audio version for myself and my hubby to listen to, and the effect was as shocking and exciting. Both versions amazing.
What did you like best about this story?
It started as quite a sad story, then it cheered up, thought everything going well, then, wallop!! Things changed, makes you start to read faster and faster.
What does Kate Scarfe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Kate's voice was very well suited to the story and her changes of characters really fitted. She made some points clearer because you don't 'speed read' with excitement.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, if it was possible I would have liked to listen to the whole book in one sitting, but life gets in the way!
Any additional comments?
I am a great fan of Jodie Taylor and have ALL of her other books on my kindle. I am really looking forward to the continuation of Elizabeths' story in her next book.
