Summary

Nowadays, the world is full of people trying to tell us things. So much so that we have taught our brains not to pay much attention. After all, click the mouse, tap the screen, flick the channel and it’s on to the next thing. But Dave Gorman thinks it’s time to have a closer look, to find out how much nonsense we tacitly accept.

Suspicious adverts, baffling newspaper headlines, fake twitter, endless cat videos, insane TV shows where the presenters ask the same questions over and over.…

Can we even hear ourselves think over the rising din? Or is there just too much information?

Read by Dave Gorman himself.

Don't listen to this in the library !

It's Dave Gorman what do you expect? Be prepared to laugh loudly and uncontrollably. Well worth the money!

Too Much Information

Would you consider the audio edition of Too Much Information to be better than the print version?

I briefly borrowed the print version from the library then purchased the audio book, so who knows? The beauty of the audio version is that I could carry it around the house and play it whilst completing chores. The short chapter and theme of this book make it perfect for this manner of consumption because reading it in short bursts is more effective.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It wasn't a novel, so this question is somewhat superfluous.

What does Dave Gorman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

His accent, cadence and intonation.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I wish that DG had written more original material - much of the book follows similar themes to S2 of his Dave (The Cable Channel) show 'Modern Life Is Goodish, which is a shame. Without the accompanying visuals the whole thing is a bit 'meh'.

Any additional comments?

We know that you inherently detest The Daily Mail, but you did labour the point somewhat. I don't particularly like it either, but millions of people disagree with us.

I tend to prefer DG's books when they're centred around a quest/theme etc.

rather dull

dave gorman is a genius, his other works such as googlewack, are you dave gorman are incredible and the story really pulls you in.

this book is boring, I don't really understand the point or reason for it to exist.

the modern life is goodish tv show really works as it has a visual aid, this doesn't.

Excellent audio book

Dave Gorman has confirmed my worst fears. Ha ha! Only joking. Strangely this book has made me feel happier than a book about being happy. 15 Stars and 1 glove puppet badger.

Great, fun book!

Loved this book. if you watch Modern Life Is Goodish, a few of the stories are similar or the same, however they are still just as enjoyable and sometimes have more content to them.
if you need something to cheer you up. This is the book!

Commentary that resonated with me

Would you listen to Too Much Information again? Why?

Yes, particularly to share it with other people. Dave Gorman's writing style is both entertaining and informative; he writes intelligent observational comedy that is oddly data-driven, and that's something unique in the business, well worth taking the time to enjoy and digest.

What did you like best about this story?

Gorman's descriptions of him sending an indignant email to a friend over his "Liking" of a status concerning a Greatest Hits album was a particular highlight. "I'd prepared a graph that I wanted to send as an attachment," he says. "A text message just wouldn't cut it."

Which character – as performed by Dave Gorman – was your favourite?

Badger Glove Puppet

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I probably could, but it was split into chapters that stood by themselves well, so it was easily digestible in chunks.

Any additional comments?

Gorman occasionally sounds a little too obviously like he's reading from the text rather than talking to the audience as in his stand-up shows, but for the most part his delivery is very good. The content itself was excellent and particularly resonated with me, as someone who has become increasingly intolerant of all the noise the Internet bombards us with on a daily basis!

Good... but much of it covered in the TV show.

The performance of this book is great, exactly what you would expect from Gorman. If you have never seen his TV show, Modern Life is Goodish, then there is a lot here that you will find fresh and funny.

Unfortunately, as a fan of Dave Gorman and his TV show, I have heard many of these stories before, with accompanying PowerPoint displays.

That is not to say that this is not a great book, it's just that I'd heard a lot of it already.

My Opinion

if you have seen the TV show this book is not anything new as a lot of what is said is a repeat of that if you have not then buy as worth it..

grumpy old man

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Has it's moments but is often an opinionated grumpy rant. A blunderbuss of a book taking cheap swipes at stuff we all know is crap anyway. As a Dave Gorman fan (loved Googlewhack and the Dave Gorman book) came away feeling like I'd just spent an evening with a sad old bore in desperate need of widening his horizons. Sorry Dave x
