Summary

Most self-help books encourage you to think differently, to think yourself thin, imagine a richer self or visualize the perfect you. This is difficult and time consuming and often doesn’t work.

Drawing on a dazzling array of scientific evidence, psychologist Richard Wiseman presents a radical new insight that turns conventional self-help on its head: simple physical actions represent the quickest, easiest and most powerful way to instantly change how you think and feel. So don't just think about changing your life. Do it.

Rip it up and read again.

Which if you follow the advice of the author you won't be able to do.
I find Richard Wiseman an interesting and thought provoking writer. I enjoy his books immensely, helped in great part, by the narration of Peter Noble.
I'd recommend his books to anyone and everyone.

Wise words

Having read a hell of a lot of these kind of books, including Richard Wisemans other work some of the anecdotes, studies become familiar classics. Having worked with troubled individuals for twenty years I was not keen on having my beliefs destroyed by Richards book. As it happened I think they complimented and confirmed much of the work I already did despite disagreeing on why it worked. This and his other work I highly recommend. Definitely worth a listen if not a read.

Solid themes told Simply

Enjoyed the core psychology behind the book. The story telling is somewhat repetitive and the ‘exercises’ are really suited to an audiobook.

Information packed

Loved all the evidence and cases to prove the theory. However, I found it hard to focus half way through the book as there wasn’t really a story. Nonetheless, because of the facts, and studies within the book I persevered as it was helpful for my work but as a standard reader, I think I would’ve stopped half way when I got the message, “What you act is what you become”.

A different way of looking at everyday things

I enjoyed this book as it turned the common sense beliefs on their head and with scientific data proved their validity. Act as if you are X and you will start believing and becoming it.

fascinating

as a manual for change, it could have been a little more prescriptive. nevertheless, provided good case study support for theory. I came to this book because it is referenced in Klaus Bernhardt excellent the anxiety cure. would have liked some more cross references. will listen to again 😊
