Summary

Audiobook 1 of the Dark Imperium trilogy.

The first phase of the Indomitus Crusade is over, and the conquering primarch, Roboute Guilliman, sets his sights on home. The hordes of his traitorous brother, Mortarion, march on Ultramar, and only Guilliman can hope to thwart their schemes with his Primaris Space Marine armies.

Listen to It Because

Experience the beginning of the Plague Wars, as the Imperium's lord regent fights to reclaim his home from the Death Guard and their daemonic allies.

The Story

Fell times have come to the galaxy. Cadia has fallen, destroyed by the onslaught of Chaos. A Great Rift in the warp has opened, and from its depths spew daemons and the horrors of Old Night.

But all hope is not lost… A hero, long absent, has returned, and with him comes the wrath of the Ultramarines reborn. Roboute Guilliman has arisen to lead the Imperium out of darkness on a crusade the likes of which has not been seen since the fabled days of the Emperor.

But never before have the forces of Ruin amassed in such numbers, and nowhere is safe from despoliation. From the dreaded Scourge Stars come the hordes of the Plaguefather, Lord Nurgle, and their pustulent eye is fixed on Macragge. As the Indomitus Crusade rages on, Guilliman races to Ultramar and a confrontation with the Death Guard.

Written by Guy Haley. Narrated by John Banks.

Solid story, excellent delivery

Some parts of the book were really great, especially those concerning Guilliman and his trying to comprehend the new Imperium he’s found himself into. Also, some really good battle scenes although they could be shorter and more to the point. Very good book overall.

Primarch storyline goodness

More content on the Primachs and insight into the power of the Emperor and the powers

Great

The story gave a deeper insight into the mind of Guiliman, the narrator performed amazingly, although his sounding of the demon primarchs sounded a bit cartoonish.

Girly man

Really good book. Would liked to have seen more or morterion but I’m sure that’s too come in a later book.

Epic start

Wasn’t sure what to expect here but was keen to see where the current plot was heading for 40K and being a avid fan of the death guard this book kept giving. Great plot and insight into to the primarch having been resurrected into a very different imperium. Great book a must listen for 40K true fans

Emperors Teeth

Wow this was an intense and amazing story of how the Emperor’s ruling loyal son moves to avenge his father’s death and punish his brother’s betrayal the whole book is amazing I can’t wait to start the next one and hopefully see Mortarion get beat by the emperor’s blade

Avē Imperātor

A combination of moments of excellent writing, compelling characters and a great performance make this an extremely enjoyable first start for a trilogy. The only issues being some possibly unresolved character arcs and perhaps a slightly muted ending, which both could well be chalked up to this being the first book in said trilogy, but the good news is I'm exited to find out!

fantastic read

Great book and my second 40k series to tackle, though I must admit the performance was a bit lacklustre at times.

Overall good and worth reading / listening to

Some moments could have been cut out, but overall a great listen and very informative as to what's happening in the imperium.

Fantastic Narration, and the story is touchingly human.

To keep it as brief and spoiler free as possible, it puts into perspective the very human elements of the Primarch and the Astartes that exist even in demi-gods. The more dreadful elements are those that you can see as a forgone conclusion but the ride there is just filled with this sort of heavy feeling in ones gut that Guy Haley nails.
