Summary
Have you ever tried to take a break from alcohol and struggled? Are you wanting to go sober but keeping going back to day one? Do you find it impossible to moderate, or do you use a drink at the end of the day to switch off an overactive mind? You’re not alone.
As a cognitive behavioral hypnotherapist, Louisa was no stranger to helping others quit unwanted habits, but when it came to her own relationship with alcohol, she struggled. After spending more than a decade attempting moderation, she finally declared that enough was enough and embarked on a sober life.
And that’s when the fun started. Louisa shares with honesty how she found herself in a resetting loop with far too many "day ones" before making the necessary mindset shifts that changed everything.
Join her as she reflects on where her attitude to alcohol started and in working out why she found it so hard to walk away from it. Why was she sabotaging her own success, and most importantly, why wasn’t she using the tools from her professional life that she knew would work?
Fast forward to today, and she is delighted to have booted alcohol out of her life having created a sober identity that is far more appealing than her old drinking one.
Louisa is now on a mission to spread the message far and wide that you don’t need to hit any sort of rock bottom to walk away from alcohol and that if you struggle at the start it doesn’t mean you won’t succeed eventually. It’s all about mindset.
It’s never just about stopping drinking, it’s also about addressing why your unhealthy relationship with alcohol happened in the first place. Dealing with emotions, anxiety, or mental health is a cornerstone of making this a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
This book is a really entertaining and relatable look at what it is like to quit alcohol and how amazing it feels to regain control of your life.

Simply brilliant
I've read a lot of quit lit but this one is different. Relatable, honest without being preachy. Unashamed in stating the facts and dark realities that lie behind the marketing of alcohol, I will definitely be listening to this again. Highly recommend for anyone quitting alcohol or just sober curious.

Highly recommend!
A great and informative listen! So many things I could resonate with.
The biology and physical behaviours that our bodies go through stood out for me and it gives an actual scientific explanation as to why we react and do certain things.
Will definitely listen again!

So relatable
This book relates to most women in their 40s
1990s hard hitting parties and having it all has left most of us still drinking but that inner voice hating it. This book helped me see that the booze culture has been sold to us in a false way. Thank you!

A fabulous book!
A truly honest window into the life of a grey area drinker. It’s reassuring that rock bottom doesn’t have to be the start of something new and that we are not alone in all this. Beautifully written and read.

Really enjoyable
It’s really refreshing to listen to a story of someone who drinks like me. Not at rock bottom but just drinking too much. Other books have been great but I couldn’t associate as well with them. I also now listen to a hypnosis to help me with mindset and it’s really working. Great audiobook!

An absolutely brilliant book
I have been toying with the idea of sobriety for such a long time and listening to Louisa's book has just cemented that decision in my mind. I really associated with all the things she talked about and loved the practical tools for success at the end. It's nice to find someone I can connect to and as great as 'rock bottom' tales are, I always find myself saying to myself that I'm not THAT bad and it sees me drinking more.
I loved Louisa's honesty, humour and her stories about early sobriety because that's what I needed to hear about! I'm now going to DO THIS.
Thank you Louisa, between this, your podcast and your instagram you really have helped me look at alcohol differently and get excited about sobriety.
