Summary

This is a 150-year detective story with a cast of unrecognized heroes who may, finally, become known for their work on the true causes of heart disease. Exploring the truth about cholesterol—the apparently tried, and convicted, cause of millions of deaths from heart disease—with billions spent each year on lowering cholesterol with diet and drugs.

Is it possible that our villain was simply left holding the gun whilst the true culprits ran and hid? Have they escaped our clutches?

Dr. Kendrick also introduces us to a range of other lesser known characters in this tale of selective reporting, data manipulation, and intrigue. The true story of heart disease is out there, and the evidence has been brought together here—a scientific mystery for our time that is ready to unfold.

Captivating!

Even if heart issues aren't at the forefront of your concerns, this audiobook is a must-listen for anyone seeking to cultivate a long and fulfilling life.

Within its pages, you'll discover a wealth of practical information and profound wisdom. From strategies for maintaining a healthy heart to tips for longevity, this audiobook covers it all with meticulous detail and clarity.

One of the standout features of 'The Clot Thickens' is the exceptional narration. The reader's performance not only does justice to the depth of the content but also brings out the intelligence and humour of the author in a delightful manner. Their skilful delivery elevates the listening experience, making it both informative and engaging.

I eagerly anticipate more enlightening works of this caliber in the future.

Eye opening. Especially when my doctor keeps pushing statins. I learned so much from this book. Very grateful to Dr. Malcolm Kendrick 🙏🏻

A MASTERCLASS

This is perhaps the best book I've read on this topic by a mile. The author breaks down complex topics so easily that any lay man can understand. Surely a 5 star book with a 5 star narrator. A very useful contribution to understanding CVDs and related issues

A master class in accessible science

Brilliantly and clearly written even when delving into some tricky technical points.

The argument Kendrick provides seems water tight, especially when contrasted with the pretty unsatisfactory diet/heart hypothesis.

It is an eye-opener with straightforward advice.

An excellent narration of a book on an important subject. Ultimately there are some simple and free things you can do to reduce your risk of death! It is no surprise that some large companies are only interested in their bottom line. It's the same pattern as with Ultra Processes Food.

The book of past, present and future

How to get this message out to the world?
I predict it to be a book referenced to in years to come (I told you so)
Malcolm this is an amazingly written book and the narrator has been very good at capturing it. I initially listened to the audiobook and just had to buy the paperback too.
A great sense of humour throughout this book although it is a great biology lesson. You could never imagine such humour to be in and science book, but this works so well.
As for the content and the alternative “hypothesis” it makes far more sense than the cholesterol rubbish. I have a congenital heart condition and have got no fear about my high cholesterol, as I live on a proper human diet. My GP on the other hand is not convinced, yes I will provide her with this book to give her a chance to learn the truth.

excellent story telling

An excellent book from Malcolm Kendrick. My only criticism is that the narrator mispronounced several words which, as a doctor, I found very annoying and rather jarring. In particular Lp(a) should be pronounced l p little a as just saying l p a implies something different. They did however convey the dour scottishness of Malcolm well, although I would really have liked it to be read by the man himself!

Hard science delivered with wit

I would have struggled to read this, lots of long medical terms, but makes fantastic listening.
