Comedian Geoff Norcott should have been Labour through and through. He grew up on a council estate, both of his parents were disabled, and his dad was a Union man. So, how was it that he grew up to vote Tory?
In this courageously honest and provocative memoir, Geoff unpicks his working-class upbringing and his political journey from left to right. Raised by a fierce matriarch and a maverick father on a South London council estate where they filmed scenes for The Bill, Geoff spends his youth attempting to put out kitchen fires with aerosols and leaping in and out of industrial skips. But as he reaches adolescence, his political views begin to be influenced by major events including the early '90s recession, the credit crunch, and a chance encounter with Conservative PM John Major.
As an adult, Geoff begins to have the gnawing feeling that the values and traditions he grew up with no longer match Labour's. And, as Brexit appears, he feels even more like a double agent operating behind enemy lines.
Written with warmth, wit and often laugh-out-loud humour, Where Did I Go Right? is Geoff's attempt to understand why he ended up voting 'for the bad guys', and why blue-collared conservatism could be here to stay.

Good Listen and Decent Chap
I like Geoff and often feel he says what us normal blokes wish we could without being vilified.
I've started listening to Geoff's podcast since finishing his book too - it's nice to have someone to listen to that leans right without being far right!

Great social history and comedy
Anyone who went to University in the 80s or 90s will recognise world Geoff describes. The left has moved on from its former supporters and is now the preserve of crackpot gender nutters denying reality. You don’t have go all the way with the Tories, like Geoff, but many will have flirted with other affiliations. Geoff tells his story with wit and passion. I really enjoyed this book as my first audio ‘read’. 5 stars.

Good listen
I only purchased this book as Mr norcott taught me science in high school (probably the reason that was the only GCSE I got a half decent grade in) this book has given me a new perspective on life and politics. I wish him all the best in the future

Easy going, funny and thought provoking,
I really enjoyed this, only took 4 dog walks! This works well as an audio book, as Geoff (can I call him that? Mr Norcott then) does the accents of his family, friends and the absolute whallopers he has encountered throughout his life, which adds colour and humour to the story
Even if you don't agree with him politically, worth a listen to understand how other people form their political views.

More people like this are needed to speak up in world. This book is insightful as much as it is entertaining - with some good laughs chucked in for good measure

Essential listening whatever your politics
If you're leftwing and can't understand why tories keep winning, Geoff explains it clearly here. He gives the right wing vote a human face that is so often missing from current discourse, and he does it with intelligence, wit, and a level of openness and honesty which is both heart warming and heartbreaking. A genuinely superb listen, and essential for anyone who is on the left (as I am) who wants to get their head around the working class tory vote.
