UNLEASH 2023’S BIGGEST DEBUT

*A BBC 2 BETWEEN THE COVERS BOOK CLUB PICK

*Cosmopolitan's Best Books for 2023

KATE, 2019

Kate flees London – abandoning everything – for Cumbria and Weyward Cottage, inherited from her great-aunt. There, a secret lurks in the bones of the house, hidden ever since the witch-hunts of the 17th century.

VIOLET, 1942

Violet is more interested in collecting insects and climbing trees than in becoming a proper young lady. Until a chain of shocking events changes her life forever.

ALTHA, 1619

Altha is on trial for witchcraft, accused of killing a local man. Known for her uncanny connection with nature and animals, she is a threat that must be eliminated.

But Weyward women belong to the wild. And they cannot be tamed…

Weaving together the stories of three women across five centuries, Weyward is an enthralling novel of female resilience and the transformative power of the natural world.

What a book!

Cannot believe this it the debut work of Emilia Hart! It really touched so many topics, i am still full of feelings about how everything fell into place! All of the Weyward women's stories had depth and every time i hear about how "witches" are remembered in history it absolutely breaks my heart.

Altha's story was probably the one that hit me the hardest, I LOVE Aysha Kala's voice, i've listened to some of her other work and it creates such an amazing portrait of the character, she brought Altha to life! On the other side, Violet's narrator could definitely gulp a bit less, it felt towards the end like a child was reading in class.

It should come with a warning though: it features domestic abuse, rape, violence, animal cruelty.

Amazing story, beautifully written, addictive

I absolutely loved this book. I was gripped from the start. I read it and listened to it solidly for a week! Loved the description of nature and the suspense, the way it linked all three stories together. And it’s a real story of female strength and determination across the centuries. Loved it. Sad that it’s ended!

I didn’t want it to end

This was such a gripping book, full of heart and drama with a touch of suspense. So thought-provoking with the thread of witchcraft running all the way through.

Brilliant

I was hooked from the very first chapter. The audio book narration was fantastic. I haven’t been so engrossed and invested in a book for a long while.
