Summary
This brilliant audiobook is wittily and hilariously read by the author, Nina Stibbe.
Twenty years after leaving London, Nina Stibbe is back in town with her dog, Peggy. Together they take up lodging in the house of writer Deborah (Debby) Moggach in Camden for 'a year-long sabbatical'. It’s a break from married life back in Cornwall, or even perhaps a fresh start altogether.
Debby does not have many demands – only to water the garden, watch for toads, and defrost the odd pie – so Nina is free to explore the city she once called home. Between scrutinising her son’s online dating developments, navigating the politics of the local pool, and taking detergent advice at the laundrette, this diary of a sixty-year-old runaway reunites us with the inimitable voice of Love, Nina, as the writer becomes, as she puts it, 'a proper adult' at last.
As heard on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour

"Stibbe has an extraordinary gift." (Marian Keyes)
"Nina Stibbe makes being funny look easy, but that's just because she's very, very good at it." (Clare Chambers)

My book of the year!
Funny, insightful and at turns quite moving. Like hanging out with your besties. Listened twice. A joy!

Distinctive and dryly amusing
Nina Stibbe is a wonderfully eccentric yet down to earth writer who makes you feel like she has included you in her hilarious bunch of friends and their lives.

A very relaxing listen
I don't know why I liked this book, mostly just a list of random events and things others did, or said, (but then it does say it's a diary in the title!) but I did. Maybe it was because her life was so different to mine; whatever, it was very easy to listen to and if I fell asleep while listening in bed and went back the following day, it didn't matter if i'd heard some before.

Bliss!
I adored it. Thank you! Very funny, clever, insightful and poignant. Nina narrating it herself was a real treat. I just didn’t want it to end - more diaries please Nina! (Also re-focussed me on my pelvic floor exercises!).

Hilarious observations and captures a time and place
A brilliant sequel to Love Nina. The same witty observations, and love that it is set in the same location but all these years later. Love the narration too! Highly recommend

Soothing Listen
Absolutely loved this - great observations on everyday life and I really enjoyed listening to the gossipy, funny and heartwarming diary entries. Lots of interesting culture recommendations along the way too - wish Nina was on Substack listing her various thoughts on culture and fun stuff (like India Knight). Thanks Nina - a wonderful listen x

Never want her books to end!
Warning- I am biased, I love everything Nina Stibbe has written. This was very evocative of london life and full of snippets from social media and conversation. You’ll definitely enjoy if you liked Love, Nina. She has filled the void left by Sue Townsend in my life! Just can’t go wrong really. Kept me cheerful whilst recovering from an operation at home. Lovely.

I really didn’t enjoy this as an audible book
I’ve heard only great things about Nina Stibbe, so I’m wondering if I didn’t enjoy this book because the diary style didn’t work for me as an audible book. I found it hard to connect to the story at all, and didn’t find it funny (which I’d heard was the opposite of many people reviewing the book). I stopped after 2hrs of listening because it felt a chore. I’ll definitely read Nina’s other work though.

Relaxing, funny, endearing listen
I have really loved this book, although I found it wistful and sad at times. Nina has real zest for life, loves her children and relates quite hilariously to her many friends. ‘Love Nina’ is one of my favourite reads/ listens and it was great to catch up with Nina several years on. I an nine years older than Nina and could imagine what great company she would be with her humour, wisdom and joi de vivre. I hope she will write another chapter in her life in a year or two. I hope life will work out well and happily for her.
