Summary
An imprisoned man is certain that his supposed murder victim is very much alive... a female driver is pursued relentlessly by a menacing figure in another vehicle... a young artist gets the biggest break of her career... a restless beauty manages the perfect birthday celebration... an escaped Iraqi on Saddam Hussein's death list pays an involuntary visit to his homeland... How will they react? How would you?
Twelve Red Herrings is the third collection of irresistible short stories from master storyteller, Jeffrey Archer. Cleverly styled, with richly drawn characters and ingeniously plotted storylines, each of the twelve tales ends with a delightfully unexpected turn of events.
Jeffrey Archer is a bestselling British author and former politician. He was educated at Oxford and went on to become a Member of Parliament, the deputy chair of the Conservative Party as well as sitting in the House of Lords. His political career ended in scandal and he turned to writing and he has been published in over 275 million copies worldwide.
He is perhaps most famous for the Clifton Chronicles and his blockbuster Kane and Abel which was number one on the New York Times Bestseller list and inspired a popular miniseries starring Peter Strauss and Sam Neill.
After he was imprisoned for perjury in 2001, he wrote his highly acclaimed non-fiction series, Prison Diaries - Hell, Purgatory and Heaven - which were inspired by his experiences and loosely structured around Dante’s Divine Comedy.

Excellent!
As always, a great narration to a great collection of stories from Mr Archer, undoubtedly, one of my favorite authors.

Stories dated
I did not realise how dated these stories were when I bought this book. They have not stood the test of time - way too dated to be enjoyable almost 35 years later.

Very dated - not Archer’s best!
I usually really enjoy Archer’s books but I have to say I found this collection of short stories incredibly dated, predictable and, to be honest, a bit naff. Won’t be rushing to read any more of his short stories collections after this! Decent performances from the narrators (apart from the ‘Jamaican’ accent in the final story…!).

Old fashioned viewpoints and underwhelming stories
My father recommended J Archer to me and when I expressed that our tastes differed considerably he assured me that ‘he writes a very good story- they’re all good, definitely worth a listen ’.
Well all I can say is that I’m glad I didn’t pay for these. my experience was exactly what I feared. Might be Fine for a 75+ yr old reader but if you were born after 1980 I think you’ll struggle to listen to this. Very outdated cultural references and gender stereotyping etc. very of its time and the stories just weren’t that interesting.

A compulsive read (or rather listening to a great storyteller)
Jeffery Archer never disappoints his readers amazing short stories and especially liked the last one with four different endings, what an imagination and giving his readers a choice to suit everyone, brilliant.
