Summary

When Frank Woods at number 79 Primrose Square comes home to a surprise birthday party thrown by his wife and adoring children, it is his guests who get the real surprise.

Finding himself alone, he befriends the cantankerous Miss Hardcastle, who hasn't left her home for decades, and Emily Dunne - fresh out of rehab and desperate to make amends.

As gossip spreads through Primrose Square, every relationship is tested, and nothing in this close-knit community will ever be the same again....

Great read

I loved the characters, their various problems and how situations were worked through many being true to the era.

Great story

Loved this book from start to end. Ok so things work out for all in the end, so what’s wrong with happy endings :-)
Love this narrator as well. Feel like she’s a friend now that I have listened to so much read by her.

Brilliant book, Brilliant narrator

I just loved every minute of this book, each character was really interesting and had their own tale to tell.
The relationship between Emily and Violet was so funny at times. Emily is a recovering alcoholic and you can sympathise with her for the struggle she's facing.
Violet is agaraphobic, the reason for which is told in her sad story.
Frank/Franchesca is a whole other story which I didn't always enjoy listening to! I won't spoil the story, but it was quite funny at times.
I love the narrator, she really brought the book to life, her many different voices were brilliant, she is a pleasure to listen to (except for the awful attempt at a Liverpool accent. I am from Liverpool and have never in my life heard anyone with that accent!! I'll forgive her though as her narration is excellent
