Summary

Christmas has arrived in Cumbria, and wedding bells are ringing.

But an ice-cold killer is waiting in the fells…

As the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, DI James Walker receives a phone call that puts paid to his Christmas break. During the wedding of the year at a lakeside hotel, the bride’s sister has vanished.

When Rachel left the wedding breakfast before her speech, newly-wed Libby was furious. But as the night went on with no sign of her maid-of-honour, Libby started to realise something was very, very wrong…

Before the wedding night is out, the lake is being searched for a body.

Something old, something new. One guest is a killer. The question is: who?

The most chilling crime thriller you’ll listen to this winter, perfect for fans of Catherine Cooper’s The Chalet and Simon McCleave’s The Snowdonia Killings – and anyone who prefers their mince pies with a side of murder.

Another Festive thriller delight.

Another awesome instalment into DCI James Walker….kept me guessing until the end. Although in some aspects I should have suspected more…

Excellent storyline

Excellent storyline from Alex Pine. Another cracking story based in the Lake District. Really enjoy his characters and the pace of the story

Too gentle for me

Found this far too safe and a bit dull for me I’m afraid. I don’t often listen to police series novels like this, where the crimes & criminals change but you follow the same police offers throughout the series, and I’m not sure I like it. It all felt very safe and bland, despite there being a murder at the heart of it all! The characters all felt two-dimensional and unbelievable - these must be the most polite, considerate police officers I’ve ever heard. And the police officer’s wife, a new mom no less, who waves him off cheerily as he leaves for work and welcomes him back with a hot meal & glass of whiskey, didn’t ring true for me. This may suit readers who want something gentle & easy to listen to, but sadly not for me.

Disappointing reading

Very slow to get started: It took the writer 8 chapters to establish that a body was found when the reader knew from the start of the book that this was going to happen. The narrative style was equally tedious, I stopped listening half way through chapter 8.
