Summary
Orestis is a young man who refuses to accept his lot in life. He wants a better job, a toned body, his own place, a brighter future. On a night out, he bumps into an old school friend who lands him an interview at her father’s five-star hotel. Orestis feels he is finally on the path to success. That is, until he becomes acquainted with a high-end gigolo who draws him onto a different path - one that leads to a wealthy Belarusian trophy wife named Darya. Before long, Orestis’ destiny drifts even further out of his control.
Set in Cyprus, The Way It Breaks is a modern tale about fate and free will; love and boundaries; and the value of a human being.

Sexy, stylish and a sense of belonging.
The Way It Breaks transports the reader to the shimmering island of Cyprus, where a luxury hotel is the starting place for this sizzling tale.
I’m not going to spoil it for you, but the novel is packed full of rich descriptions as the story shifts through the lives of the not-so-wealthy to the very wealthy. It is a novel about identity, self-truth, and belonging in a world that wasn’t designed to accept us.
Polis lifts the prose off the page with such deftness that scene changes are seamless, and it’s impossible not to get invested in the flawed and believable characters.
Ultimately, it is a gentle story, one of internal dilemmas rooted in Cyprus and yet identifiable to those who have ever longed for what is seemingly out of reach.
It's a beautiful book, and I thoroughly recommend it!
