Summary
Discover the spellbinding mystery from the Richard & Judy best-selling author of The Glass House.
When four sisters arrive at Applecote Manor to spend the summer, all is clearly not well. They find their aunt and uncle still reeling from the disappearance of their only daughter, five years before. No one seems any closer to finding out the truth. Why did Audrey vanish? Who is keeping her fate secret?
As the sisters are lured into the mystery of their missing cousin, the stifling summer takes a shocking, deadly turn.
One which will leave blood on their hands, and put another girl in danger decades later....

Good story
It took me three attempts to start this. The first two attempts I couldn't get into it, or get to know who was who. I was glad I persevered because it turned into a very good story.

Enjoyed this book by Eve Chase
Two compelling stories, woven together to create a novel of mystery and intrigue. I enjoyed this novel for its insight into family relationships in two different eras.

Enthralling
As a child of the fifties I was entranced by the story. The book is wonderfully written and holds the attention of the reader from beginning to end. I really enjoyed the whole narrative.

Quiet but good.
I really enjoyed the story but struggled to hear it a lot! There’s no point in listening to it in the car - unless through headphones turned all the way up - as it’s really quiet!

Brilliant!!!
Just when I thought I couldn’t find another great story and then I find this one. A story of mystery and family through time, beautifully narrated, I hung onto every word of a brilliant story.

Complex tale of the relationships between girls and women
Brilliant holiday read. Dual storylines worked well, but I found myself much more invested in Margot’s

Disappointed
I gave it a chance but didn't enjoy enjoy. Nothing wrong with with the narrators performance, but I found the book slow and uninteresting.

Not for the normal of hearing
Probably very good if you are a dog with their superior hearing. This audio book is recorded at such a low volume that even at full volume you need to be in a place with no background sound. Try to listen in a car, going for a walk and you have to strain to hear it. This seems to be becoming more common with audible recordings which if check with monitoring software you will find are recorded at a level many decibels below where any clipping would occur. There is nothing wrong with the recordings except this. Using headphone boosters you can get acceptable levels of volume. But why should you need this, I don't want to have to have extra bits and cables to carry around when it would be the simplest thing in the world deliver the books with sensible volume levels. I can do it with a piece of consumer software costing £50. There are multiple complaints about this on the internet yet Audible does nothing.

Weak characters no female role models
Very weak female characters, all pathetically whiny and flimsy. The modern day Jesse interested in nothing but babies, a spoilt housewife with no idea of how the mortgage gets paid. No role models here. No substance around many characters except very cliche one liners. The mother working in Morocco in 1959 even though she has no qualifications other than lying on a chaise. Completely ungrounded in a convincing reality, the story could have been so much more interesting and dimensional. Yet another nonsense missing child story that is all too fashionable at the moment, there are loads of them just the same on audible with no attempt at originality. Just a stream of lovely words about meadows and boys.
