Summary
Amateur sleuths Jude and Carole take on their third case when a terrible discovery is made in the cellar of a grand old house. Grant and Kim Roxby had hoped that their first dinner party at Pelling House would make an impression with their new neighbours. And the next day it's certainly the talk of the town.
For their guests - including the couple's old friend Jude - had been enjoying a pleasant meal before they were rudely interrupted by a gruesome discovery. A human torso hidden in the cellar. Jude races home to Fethering and her friend Carole with the news. And soon the pair are back in Fedborough, questioning the locals.

Simon Brett at his best
I love the fethering mystery books and this one doesn't let me down.
Jude and carol are the odd couple but their friendship grows as we go along the series. I want to be their friend and help with the current murder mystery. I'm always a little sad to reach the last chapter.

Great series
Love this series. I just see Pam Ferris and Annette Crosby as Jude and Carol. Relaxing, comfortable light hearted even though it is murder. Characterisation and social comment almost reminiscent of Jane Austen. Narration by the author is needless to say spot on.

A good old English murder mystery
I became a fan of the series of Feathering village. The story is very unusual, a very interesting collection of characters. Simon Brett has a very good eye for detail in describing human nature. He is also a brilliant narrator. It was not my favourite conclusion but still wanted to read the next in the series.

Cosy murder mystery
I stumbled on these as I love the Charles Paris mysteries. It's great that they are a series and perfect as audio stories before bedtime or on a rainy afternoon. I particularly like that the characters are middle aged women and more rounded characters than the usual stereotypes. The stories are complete in themselves but added interest comes from additional revelations about the main protagonists' histories. Simon Brett conveys the characters so well in his reading.

So glad to have discovered Simon Brett
I love the balance of light & subtle comedy and biting adjectives combined with crime! Easy to follow without being obvious, it's an easy wind down from stressful days! Thank you Mr Brett!

Simon Brett's my new favourite author
This was a good solid mystery, I binged this over two days. I like Simon's writing style and performance as the narrator. I still want to know more about Jude, it's actually starting to irritate me. I think I have an idea of her background but need to find out if I'm right? She comes off as a bit of a grifter or maybe a con woman who retired, or just an ex hippie? just about to buy the next book!
