Summary

Listen to the award-winning, critically acclaimed, multi-million-copy-selling science-fiction phenomenon – adapted into a Netflix Original Series from the creators of Game of Thrones.

1967: Ye Wenjie witnesses Red Guards beat her father to death during China's Cultural Revolution. This singular event will shape not only the rest of her life but also the future of mankind.

Four decades later, Beijing police ask nanotech engineer Wang Miao to infiltrate a secretive cabal of scientists after a spate of inexplicable suicides. Wang's investigation will lead him to a mysterious online game and immerse him in a virtual world ruled by the intractable and unpredictable interaction of its three suns.

This is the Three-Body Problem and it is the key to everything: the key to the scientists' deaths, the key to a conspiracy that spans light-years and the key to the extinction-level threat humanity now faces.

Quite a slog but worth it for the ending!

First of all, I really didn’t enjoy the narration. It was just incredibly slow! found that playing it at 1.4x speed made it sound like normal speech, and then I enjoyed the book much, much more!
As mentioned in the title, this book was pretty hard work, but the last few chapters were extremely exciting, and I’ve heard that the other two books in the trilogy are excellent, so I’m gonna stick with it! The last few chapters were enough to pull me in :)

Interesting, but too particular

This was an interesting read, a could have been catching story, but there were too many particular scientific references. Also there were so meny places with repetition of numbers or phrases so it made it difficult for me as a listener to pay attention and consentrate. I’m not sure if I’m gonna continue with the triology. A bit too boring for me. But I’ve heard the second book is better. The narrator was great thogh.

even better as an audiobook

I remember vividly being blown away when I read this for the first time. the complexity of concepts and the diligent explanations expanded my imagination in all manner of ways. I was nervous about listening to the story on audiobook form, especially when it came to the unfamiliarity of the names of the characters but I needn't have at all. if anything, the audiobook version immersed me.in the unsurpassed imagination of the author even more. absolutely outstanding.

Sci-fi perfectly performed

Instant classic, not a book for everyone but a real sci-fi book that you need to participate with: think, listen and get involved. Great performance by the reader and thumbs up to the Chinese setting: I really enjoyed it and I guess you don’t need to read book 2 and 3 if you won’t feel like it. But I’m definitely going to!

wide, deep and yet gripping

.........and somehow the book 2 and 3 are even better as the stories build and interlink.

I have now completed the trilogy and loved every minute of it.

Longer review on book 2 Dark Forest after completing all three.

I understand Netflix will make this soon. Cannot imagine how they will do justice to such a grand undertaken.

Thought provoking

Well read, well translated I think, and huge in scope. Not a scientist myself or a fan of sci-fi in literature but this was instructional and thought provoking

incredible food for thought

the different perspectives drew me closer to each character’s story point. however the technical aspects were at times too overwhelming and i had to fade out until the plot picked up again in layman’s terms!

some plot points were unclear to me as to how a character would have known about certain things. at times the plot and coincidences seem fantastical. otherwise the overarching themes of the story seemed aspirational.

Mind-bending.

An absolute treat that doesn’t stop delivering in all kinds of aspects. A book with grandiose scale that seeds into the readers mind and blooms in unexpected ways.
Highly recommended.

Amazing

It has been in my wish list for a while decided to listen to it before the Amazon series dropped. Just amazing! Mid blowing story, very complicated and also well narrated.

Brilliant

Simply amazing. An interesting science fiction journey full of creative and fun futuristic concepts. The book doesn’t waste time with chapters and chapters of filler and gets on with the story.
