Summary
Funny, heartwarming and ultimately triumphant, The Seven Imperfect Rules of Elvira Carr is the perfect story for anyone who doesn't quite fit in - and for everyone who chooses not to.
Elvira Carr is 27 and neuro-atypical. Her father - whom she suspects was in the secret service - has passed away, and, after several Unfortunate Incidents growing up, she now spends most of her time at home with her overbearing mother. But when her mother has a stroke and is taken into care, Elvira is suddenly forced to look after herself or risk ending up in sheltered accommodation.
Armed with her Seven Rules, which she puts together after online research, Elvira hopes to learn how to navigate a world that's full of people she doesn't understand. Not even the Seven Rules can help her, however, when she discovers that everything she thought she knew about her father was a lie, and she is faced with solving a mystery she didn't even know existed.

Amazing!
Absolutely amazing and beautiful book. Frances Maynard is an exceptional author and made me laugh and cry throughout the book. My affection for Elvira grew and grew, taking me on her journey with her and wishing I could give her a hug and guide her. The ending was so heartwarming and such amazing characters. I will be listening to this again! Wish it hadn’t finished!

Delightful
A lovely book fantastically narrated. You’re really rooting for Elvira to make it in the world that she find quite confusing. Loved it

Unique...loved it.
I have loved this book and am sorry it’s over. More please!!!
Spending time in Elvira’s company has been an eye opener...another figure of speech that caused so much confusion in her life. We spray these terms around without a thought and everyone understands or do they?
It has been a rollercoaster of emotions listening to this book. Cheering Elvira on and feeling her hopelessness when things go wrong. What an easy life we have when we can interpret and generally understand all the signals people make during the day....not having to hide away in silence until the sand stops shifting under our feet. A really unique book.

Loved it and don’t review many!!
So cleverly written you begin to see the world through Elvira’s eyes. Narrated perfectly. I don’t often write reviews but then l don’t always enjoy books as much as this!! A light, easy listen with great characters.
