Summary

December, 1939.

Having solved the case of the Suffolk Vampire, Inspector Betty Church and her colleagues at Sackwater Police Station have settled back down to business. There's the elderly Mr Fern, who keeps losing his slippers, Sylvia Satin's 13th birthday party to attend and the scintillating case of the missing bookmark to solve.

Though peace and quiet are all well and good, Betty soon finds herself longing for some cold-blooded murder.

When a bomb is dropped on a residential street, both peace and quiet are broken, and it seems the war has finally reached Sackwater. But Betty cannot stop the Hun, however hard she tries. So when the body of one of the bomb victims is found stretched out like an angel on Sackwater's beach, Betty concentrates on finding the enemy much closer to home....

Very enjoyable characters

I was pleased to listen to Emma Gregory narrated this story as she does it well. The writing is good and the story evolves grimly and well. I was disappointed the Gower Street books ended but this series has picked up the thread well.

Another hit...

As with the first book of this new ‘Betty Church’ series, I thoroughly enjoyed, the often dark, yet somehow always witty and amusingly told stories. The characters continue to grow, as do my grins, and yes out loud laughs! I truly recommend M R C Kasasian as a writer as well as ingenious criminal mind!

I properly love these books

I love the March Middleton books and thought that was a lucky find, but to have this series too - amazing.

Love the narrator, she does all the characters brilliantly. However, it’s the material she works with that is just tremendous. Funny, poignant, dark, evocative and a whole lot more. These books grip and entertain. Bravo.

Enjoyable

I am enjoying this series, but it is a bit wacky, the story is very good and the characters are well rounded.
I will probably get the next in the series when it is out. I am happy to have spent a credit on it.

A great build on the 1st book

I enjoyed this book a lot. Especially as some of the annoyingly stupid characters finally got addressed and started to become more tolerable. Maybe that's the point though, Bettys struggles as she tries to do her job and hopefully get her peers to do their jobs properly and cop on. 1 less grown adult acting like a simpering child the better.
