Summary
For all the words that have been written about him, Ronald Reagan remains an enigma. His former speechwriter Peggy Noonan called him "paradox all the way down," and even his son despaired of ever truly knowing him. But Reagan was not an enigma to William F. Buckley Jr. They understood and taught each other for decades, and together they changed history.

A fine memorial of both subject and author
The Reagan I Knew was William F. Buckley Jr's last completed book, and it stands as a testament to the author as much as to the President it eulogises. The book is a collection of letters, articles and interviews with linking material by Buckley. The letters (to both Ronald and Nancy Reagan) are particularly memorable, full of Buckley's characteristic humour. The narration by Malcolm Hillgartner is note perfect. Recommended for admirers of Buckley or Reagan.
