Fascinating and detailed overview of Stoicism

Whilst the deadpan narration is a little dry this is nevertheless a fascinating and inspiring account of the later stoics and their ideas about how to live a better life. Really enjoyed this

Presentation

This book is split into 12 easily distinguishable areas of interest for learning Stoicism. The use of quotes relevant to the theme of each chapter and references to related ideas is an invaluable asset to anyone who wishes to progress with Stoic Philosophy.

The Narrator is ideal for this book as he is not dry and emotionless like you might expect, but uses just the appropriate amount of vocal expression as the story requires to emphasise the given points.

Good overview and helpful to get your bearings

I love this audiobook. First of all it is very well read in my opinion. The book itself is very interesting and well laid out: it selects a few of the main concerns of the stoics and organises them by subject matter into chapters. Each chapter has a small general introduction and it illustrates its points by direct quotations from various authors. Good stuff

A measured, rewarding explanation of Stoicism

Really enjoyed this book. I've always had an interest in Stoicism but never quite had the discipline or perserverence to read the source material referenced. This was a clear, succinct and well laid out exposition of what Stoicism is and was intended to be. Narration was excellent. Recommended.

Incredible intro to stoicism

A collection of stoic wisdom that spans what seems like the entire spectrum of human experience. Unbelievable how this is the product of a philosophy over 2000 years ago. All of it is still so relevant.

Review The Practicing Stoic

Excellent introduction to Stoicism and the philosophers who championed it. Each chapter covers a particular facet such as how to live on the present. There are liberal quotes from philosophers such as Epictetus and Montaigne which add greatly to the impact. The book has certainly piqued my interest and I hope to further delve by perhaps reading original works such as Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.

A caring introduction to the world of the Stoicd

I enjoyed this as my introduction to the Stoics, the concept of Stoicism has carefully chosen important values, main known figures, critics, well woven together with a preference of quotes, and many of them in order to present as objectively as possible well aware of contextualisation.

Basically a book of quotes

Listened to a few books about stoicism and this is by far my favourite. To the point without meaninglessness stories

Enlightenment in a book

A wealth of wisdom with every word, I will probably re-read this book. The footnotes were too long winded though and it certainly would have benefited the reader’s experience (unless a study student) by making them more concise.
