Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
We live under an ideology that preys on every aspect of our lives: our education and our jobs; our healthcare and our leisure; our relationships and our mental wellbeing; even the planet we inhabit – the very air we breathe. So pervasive has it become that, for most people, it has no name. It seems unavoidable, like a natural law.
But trace it back to its roots, and we discover that it is neither inevitable nor immutable. It was conceived, propagated, and then concealed by the powerful few. It is time to bring it into the light - and, in doing so, to find an alternative worth fighting for.
Neoliberalism. Do you know what it is?

Insightful and thought provoking
This is a tour around how a rich elite have secretly and systematically undermined democracy. It finishes with a suggestion of a new direction where we work together towards a better future, but warns that the secretive elite will do everything they can to stop us. Well worth a listen.

A clear reasoned critique of neoliberalism
Any time I had a quibble it had been addressed within a couple of pages. Clearly written and read if occasionally flowery - smokers are not quite as retiring as the author implies (in the uk anyhow). The Madeira case study is haunting and the book leaves hope mingled with anxiety

A must read (listen) for our times
I got through this book in just over a day. I rarely find a book so impossible to put down. But for me, this was the right book at the right time.
I recently came across George Monbiot and I’ve read all his book here back to back.
He’s a beautiful narrator and excellent author. I highly recommend this book and any of his others.
